From 1 November, Karratha Eyecare will be moving to private billing.

Due to changes in the rebates and freezing of fees by the federal Government from 2015, along with indexation that is significantly less than CPI, the reimbursement of fees under Medicare has fallen further behind a level that reflects adequate compensation for your optometrist time.

To ensure we can continue delivering premium service and care, a private billing model allows us to offer you a skilled team, the best technology and equipment and ongoing support in the treatment and management of your eye conditions.

Please note private billing will not apply to:

🚫 children
🚫 seniors
🚫 DVA
🚫 contract clients

Out-of-pocket imaging costs will remain as is.

We are incredibly lucky here in Karratha to live in one of the most beautiful environments in the world - with spaces like Millstream-Chicester, the Monties, Hearsons Cove and Karijini right on our doorstep.

Why are we talking about this? Well, spending time outdoors is one of the best ways to help reduce the chances of myopia (short-sightedness) especially for children, as it gives their eyes a chance to "stretch" by looking at distance and nearby objects.

Studies have shown that spending at least 2 hours per day outdoors can help regulate healthy eye development, and delay or reduce the onset of myopia.

If you do suspect your child may have myopia, or any other eye health issue, make an appointment with us as our optometry team have an interest in paediatric eye health.

We are more than happy to create a suitable environment for your child's eye exam (dim lights, lower sounds/music or play certain songs to keep them engaged, longer appointment times etc).
