A MESSAGE FROM OUR NEW DIETITIAN:

September 8- 12 is Malnutrition Week.

This serves as a vital reminder of the critical importance of recognising and addressing malnutrition, a condition that can impact women of all stages of life. Recognise the early signs is crucial in preventing long-term consequences of malnutrition.

Signs include:
👉 Sudden weight loss
👉 Low appetite
👉 Confusion or fatigue

Dietitians play a vital role in supporting nutrition to prevent and treat malnutrition by screening, providing individualised recommendations, a high energy high protein diet, meal plans and through additional nutritional supplementation to restore health and vitality to those affected.

If you would like to see a dietitian, and are a part of our focus communities, you can enquire through our website via www.bmwhrc.org/dietitian or call 02 4782 5133.

As women, we deal with a lot of unfair gaps. There’s the pay gap, the education gap, and even the sleep gap. But Dr Sarah White, CEO of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, has another gap for the top of your agenda: the pain gap.

https://www.jeanhailes.org.au/news/gender-differences-in-pain-q-a-with-dr-sarah-white

The pain gap is all about how s*x and gender work together to create differences – often negative ones – in women’s health and pain.

We hear it time and again: women feeling dismissed or ignored when seeking help for their pain. S*x and gender both play a role – from society conditioning women to 'just get on with it', to medical research that has historically left women out.

We need to ensure pain management is fair and effective for women. We need to challenge the gender norms that say women should ‘put up’ with pain. Most of all, women need to be listened to – and believed.

It’s time to close the gender pain gap.

Did you know women can have different risk factors for heart disease, on top of the traditional ones?

It is important that everyone is aware of the risk factors and heart attack warning signs affecting women.

If you’re a woman aged 45+ (or 30+ for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women), it’s important to speak with your GP about your risk of heart attack and stroke, and book a Heart Health Check.
