THE BONDI SHOOTING RESPONSE YOU DIDNT ASK FOR
I’ve felt a deep reluctance to comment, as any words risk shifting attention away from those who are suffering and toward me. This is not my intention.
From where I sit, alongside many empathetic people, I notice, however, that events like this can be experienced very differently, especially through social media. Some of us feel most deeply when pain is personal or close, while others find themselves affected each time tragedy enters their awareness, even when it is far away or outside the world they identify with.
For those who experience things empathically, this doesn’t feel like a moment for certainty or positioning. It is something felt in the body, the heart, and the nervous system.
I also notice how easily fear can be shaped into stories that divide or simplify, often aligning with existing views. When that happens, it can feel as though pain is being used rather than held with care.
The invitation I’m sitting with is not to explain or persuade, but to reflect. To notice how we are seeing, what fear may be asking of us, and whether we are being pulled into reactivity by it.
I continue to resist hardening, to stay grounded, stay human, and keep my love of all being at the centre of my prayers.
