A client recently asked me why I was performing a procedure on her feet, when she presented with lower back pain. ππ€
Hopefully, this picture clarifies things. It shows one of the main myofascial (muscle and fascia, i.e. connective tissue) tracts in the body, the Superficial Back Line, or SBL. This tract connects the entire back surface, from the bottom of the foot, to the brow.
Each Bowen move, though gentle and performed at a superficial level of fascia, has referred reactions to other areas along this tract, including to the internal organs through stimulation of the skin, muscles and nerves.
So, in this case, doing Bowen moves on the feet helped to resolve tight hamstrings, which were associated with this clients' lower back pain.
