A special kind of parkrun this morning as we gathered just after ❤️

Lest we forget.

It was a beautiful morning to come together—running, walking, volunteering, and supporting one another. Whether you were chasing a PB, taking it easy, or simply soaking up the atmosphere, it felt like a meaningful way to start the day.

We had 117 people join us this morning, and we are grateful you chose to attend Brimbank parkrun. We had 21 people achieve a PB this morning, 🎊; we also had 34 people who joined us at Brimbank parkrun for the first time, we hope to see you again.

Huge thanks to our amazing volunteers who made the event possible, and to everyone who showed up with respect and community spirit.

🦺Thank you so much to Natasha Piner, Lisa Peplow, Jesse Brandt-Amaya, Merril Lockhart, Robyn Doig, Candice Farrugia and Morne Honiball.

If you would like to join the volunteer team at Brimbank, please feel free to have a chat to us at the event, or drop us an email at Brimbank@parkrun.com.

See you all next week 👟

Wanted! Run Directors

Brimbank parkrun are currently on the look out for a few new Run Directors to join our team.

We are currently a very small team of Run Directors and as the weather starts to cool down, commitments such as children's sports, travel & our own running & walking goals do mean we need to be able to spread the load out of Run Directing among more people.

If we are not able to recruit some new Run Directors, we may need to cancel some of our events in the future as we will not be able to fill every Saturday with a Run Director. Sadly, it is starting to become unsustainable to have this role filled in every week with only 3 regular Run Directors.

We are hoping if we are able to recruit 4 new Run Directors who are willing to make a commitment to Run Direct once every 8-10 (so 5 times a year) weeks, this would be an amazing result!

Ideally, if you were interested in becoming a Run Director, you would be welcomed to shadow myself (Candice) or Amanda or a Saturday morning to see what we do as Run Director. Then we would flip it around and have you Run Direct with one of us shadowing until you are comfortable doing it on your own.

Some of the key tasks we do on a Saturday morning:

- Be at parkrun by 7.30 to introduce yourself to volunteers and anyone arriving at parkrun.
- Ensure the First Timer's Welcome goes ahead by 7.55am
- Complete the run director's briefing. We have scripts available for this and honestly every Run Director has their own way of doing it.
-Between the start & finish of parkrun, be the first point of call if there is an issue on course or at the finish line.
- Upload the results to parkrun ems (this is a 2 minute task - super easy!)

In most cases there is usually a second and third person around with Run Director experience. Even if we are doing the course on the day, our phone is always available if something is happening that you are not sure how to handle.

The biggest pain point we believe to recruiting Run Director's is that people struggle with public speaking. If the public speaking bit is not for you, that is ok. We are more than happy to step in and do that part whilst you look after the logistics of the event and results upload.

We are also happy to have people work in pairs and be co-Run Directors

As a Run Director, you are only responsible for the Saturday running of the event. The Event Directors (Candice & Amanda) will look after e-mails, Facebook posts and the filling of the volunteer roster. You will not be required to do any admin work aside from the result upload.

If you think you may be interested, please speak to Candice or Amanda. We really would appreciate any help we can get :)

Brimbank parkrun & ANZAC day

"Anzac Day carries profound significance for members of the Australian and New Zealand defence community. There is a shared understanding that people observe this day in their own unique ways, reflecting personal connections and preferences. Commemoration may take the form of attending services, participating in marches, spending time with family, engaging in quiet reflection, or connecting with others through activities such as parkrun."

We will be holding parkrun this Saturday (ANZAC Day) at Brimbank parkrun. parkrun Australia have consulted with the Invictus Australia Veteran Engagement Team and they feel it is appropriate to hold an event so long it does not disturb services that may be happening in the area.

We encourage individuals to do what feels right for them and if parkrun does form part of this, we look forward top seeing you on Saturday.

We kindly do ask, as this is a day of sombre reflection, we may take a moment to reflect on what this day means and therefore please ask you respect this during the briefings before parkrun.

We are also looking for more people to help out with Run Director duties, if you are interested please speak to Candice or myself (Amanda). It isn't as hard as you think - managing the event, and uploading results. There is always someone who can help as well.
