The subscapularis is often the overlooked muscle in shoulder restriction and pain cases.
It may be worth considering if you're struggling with any of these:
- Reaching your bra strap
- Washing or brushing your hair
- Putting on a jacket or coat
- Grabbing something from the back seat
- Reaching into your back pocket
- Tucking in a shirt at the back
- Lifting your arm out to the side
- Sleeping on the affected shoulder
- Carrying a bag on that side
The muscle sits deep inside the front of your shoulder blade, which makes it genuinely difficult to reach and treat from the outside.
If stretching hasn't resolved it, the muscle may have lost its ability to contract and relax properly. That's a different problem than tightness, and it needs a different approach.
