As a Dietitian I have supported hundreds of patients using GLP1 medications to optimise their nutrition and manage side effects. If you are taking these medications professional support is vital!

Everyone responds differently to these medications and sometimes we need to get really creative to make sure people are meeting their nutrition needs and fitting movement into their busy life. Often there needs to be targeted nutrition strategies and additional supplementation.

Here are some of my tips as a starting point....

Cook protein once and make 3 meals!

On Sunday make a few roast chickens (I do 3 for a family of 5)
* On Sunday eat roast and vege
* On monday toss some of the chicken leftovers with fajita spices and add salad to make fajitas
* On Tuesday use the leftover chicken in a soup or stir fry

Half the week done! This saves me so much time and money

This is your reminder to look after yourself the way you look after your dog!

We feed our dogs well, walk them often, make sure they get time outside in nature and let them rest. But how often do we give ourselves the same care?

I am definitely guilty of walking my dog while the kids are inside watching TV or getting meat out of the freezer for my dogs dinner but forgetting to do the same for myself.

Let's start treating ourselves with the same love and consistency we give our pets

Make a pick-n-mix out of your protein bar! If you love a bit of crunchy with your protein bar, chop up half a bar and mix it with nuts. This adds healthy fats and fibre and makes the bars go further (hello saving money!)

Kitchen gym... might sound strange but keeping a theraband and a set of dumbbells in the kitchen can allow you to throw a few exercises in between dinner prep tasks. This helps keep some constistency when life is too busy. Many of my clients love their kitchen gym!

Here's how to re-set without the drama:

Step 1:
go heavy on real food, really up the protein, vege and healthy fats for a few days. When you are full and nourished your appetite will settle. You can gently reduce portions after a few days.

Step 2:
Resume your exercise routine if its been interrupted. Small sessions build momentum. Consistency over perfection.

Teenagers will test your patience.

Fast-food meals with them will test your digestion.

Pick something with ample protein and skip the carbs. I always go the bunless burger.

Save your energy for the arguments and inevitable eye-rolling!
