If you or someone you care about is struggling with ongoing back pain, we’re here to help. Book an appointment with our team at Kellyville (9672 6752) or Carlingford (9871 2022) today!

Persistent back pain is experienced by 70-80% of the population at some point in their lives and 40% of patient who experience a sudden episode of back pain are at an increased risk of still having the pain for months and even YEARS later. It can have a huge impact on their mental state and overall health and function, with back pain being responsible for 12.5% of all sick days.

Many people think their only options are to live with the pain or go through major surgery on their spine and nerves to fix the pain. However, all recent clinical guidelines endorse physiotherapy to treat persistent low back pain. When participants who had persistent back pain were given an exercise program to do, their pain intensity decreased by 52.5%, their function improved in their day to day lives, AND their mental health improved compared to their counterparts who did no exercise at all and achieved no significant changes.

That’s why physiotherapy is recommended to be the first thing that sufferers of long-term low back should try even before scans, medications, or surgery. It is not only much cheaper and carries with less risks but also shown to be very effective in helping you return you to your normal function.

It’s a common fear: “If I move too much, I’ll make my back pain worse.”
But for the vast majority of people, the opposite is true. Physios can help you regain your movement, your strength, and your confidence!
💡 Movement is medicine.
In fact, physiotherapy is one of the most effective treatments for persistent and long-term back pain. It’s now recommended as a first-line treatment—before surgery, medications, or even scans.
Here’s what the research shows:
✅ Reduces pain
✅ Improves your strength and mobility
✅ Boosts your mood and mental health
✅ Helps you get your life back—without surgery
When people stop moving due to fear, their back muscles can actually weaken and begin to fill with fatty tissue. This can make the pain worse over time, not better.
But the good news? Exercise is safe even for people with long-term, severe pain.
Some studies have even found it works better than surgery.

Carpal tunnel pain can be frustrating — the tingling, numbness, and weakness in your hand can make even simple tasks feel impossible. But the good news? Physiotherapy can play a huge role in reducing symptoms and improving your quality of life.

Research shows that for many people with mild–moderate carpal tunnel syndrome, physiotherapy can be just as effective as surgery in improving pain, strength, and hand function without the downtime or risks of an operation.

How we can help you:

· Promote the median nerve to glide more freely, reducing tingling and improving hand function.

· Promote tendon gliding moving to lower pressure in the tunnel and ease stiffness

· Use manual therapy techniques to relieve pressure on the nerve and restore mobility

· Provide advice and guidance with splinting and bracing which helps keep the wrist aligned, preventing nerve compression and improving sleep

· Build wrist and forearm strength to improve grip and reduce strain from repetitive tasks

If you or someone you know has disc degeneration shown in the scans and is ready to try a proven, safe, and effective treatment, book an appointment to see one of our friendly staff at our Kellyville (9672 6752) or Carlingford (9871 2022) clinics!

Many people who have low back pain and disc degeneration are mistakenly led to believe that the disorder can ONLY be cured by surgery. Unfortunately, there are multiple risks that come along with this surgery and there is no guarantee that it can fix your symptoms, with some patients reporting to still have pain and residual neurological deficits after the surgery.

The reality is disc degeneration is by no means a marker of how “damaged” your back is, how severe your low back pain is, or how long the pain will last for. In fact, it is well documented that disc degeneration can also be found in young, active individuals and most individuals with intervertebral disc degeneration have no symptoms at all.

In the 1990’s it was believed that disc degeneration was caused by a person’s occupation, too much activity, or from repeated shocks and vibration to the back. However, much more recent research has highlighted the major role genetics has and therefore shifted away from believing this is caused throughout life to a belief that this is a normal part of the aging process.

It has been shown that the majority of people who have back pain with disc degeneration will improve through a structured exercise program and WITHOUT surgical treatment. A study found that patients who underwent a 6-week course of exercises and physiotherapy emphasising core strengthening, stretching, and weight loss showed to have a significant improvement in symptoms and a better quality of life.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with neck pain, book a session with one of our experienced physiotherapists at Kellyville (9672 6752) or Carlingford (9871 2022) to help you take control of your neck pain.

Neck pain can feel extremely debilitating and reduce your quality of life. It impacts all aspects of life such as work, sleep and mood. It is a common cause of time off work and reduced productivity. Up to 50% of adults experience neck pain every year and of those, nearly 30% develop chronic or recurring symptoms that last for months or even years.

Many people think their only options are to stop their everyday activities, live with the pain, rely on painkillers, or opt for expensive scans. But recent research emphasises exercise and physiotherapy as the ideal first-line treatment for neck pain, no matter how long or short you’ve had it!
Physiotherapists conduct meticulous assessments to understand exactly where your pain is coming from and create an individualised treatment and exercise program to target your specific type of neck pain.
When prescribed with a targeted exercise program focused on strength, mobility and posture studies show major improvements:
- A 46–64% reduction in neck pain intensity
- Improved function in daily activities
- Enhanced mental wellbeing and reduced stress compared to those who solely on passive care like rest or medication.
