Today we’re learning about and celebrating Diwali — the Festival of Lights.
We love the meaning behind this beautiful celebration and how it reminds us that light triumphs over darkness, and goodness and knowledge can always guide the way.

As part of our ongoing commitment to learning about different cultures and traditions, our team wanted to take a moment to wish everyone in our community who celebrates — a joyful, peaceful, and love-filled Diwali.

💚 Wearing my Parent Coach Hat

This is a role I love leaning into. There’s something deeply meaningful about walking alongside parents as they navigate the world of parenting, especially when things feel uncertain or overwhelming.

I love helping parents see that their intuition and gut feelings are spot on. Together, we explore the ways their child communicates so they can understand them more fully and then help others do the same.

Sometimes this means supporting parents in school meetings, helping them advocate for the right supports, or finding the words for those tricky conversations with people who might not yet understand.

My Parent Coach Hat often goes hand in hand with my Speech Therapist Hat because communication doesn’t stop at the child. It extends to the whole support network — family, teachers and community.

The best part is watching parents grow in confidence, trust their instincts and realise that they truly are the expert on their own child.

💛 Wearing my Mentor Hat

This is one of my favourite hats to wear. Every time I finish a Supervision with Di session, I get that warm, buzzy feeling that lights me up on the inside.

There’s something so special about supporting other clinicians, helping them see their own strengths, find clarity in the chaos, and feel confident in the work they do.

Mentoring isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about walking alongside, reflecting together and creating space for growth. It’s about celebrating the small wins and rediscovering the spark that made us want to do this work in the first place.

I love seeing other therapists thrive, not by changing who they are, but by leaning into what already makes them great.

Our Story

Di, the Speech Pathologist at Perth Hills Speech Pathology, has a passion for helping all children to be able to communicate and to reach their full potential with whatever their dreams of communication and literacy are. She believes that communication is a basic human right and every person has the right to a robust means of communication. Di is a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist and a Hanen certified Speech Pathologist in the It Takes Two to Talk and More than Words parent programs and the ABC and Beyond program for teachers. Di is also a registered Sounds-Write trainer.
