Today we hold space in our hearts for the lives that have tragically been lost to gender-based violence in Lake Cargelligo. We acknowledge the family’s right to share information about their loved ones in a manner that gives them ownership of their loss experience and bereavement needs.
Across Australia, we also reflect on all women lost to gender-based violence. Femicide Watch Australia has recorded that four women have already died by femicide in 2026. Behind these statistics are real people, real stories, and deep human loss. We hold deep respect for these women, whose lives were taken far too soon, and for the families, friends, and community members now carrying unimaginable grief.
In our collective grief we call for care, awareness and responsibility. Check in on those around you, listen and believe.
