Yesterday's Food on Fourth in celebration of NAIDOC Week was a popular option here at Herston Quarter. With the sun shining on us, it was a great day to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful Heritage Precinct surrounds. Thanks to all who participated in making it such a wonderful event.

The Smoking Ceremony held onsite to recognise NAIDOC Week and timed with the Northern Carpark foundation slab pours was a wonderful way to bring the Herston Quarter Northern Carpark teams together to share in our country’s rich history and cultural experiences. Special thanks to Turrbal’s Aunty Kathy for the heartfelt ceremony.

On Sunday, was the Australian Unity Tour de Brisbane, an event which we were proud to sponsor knowing that money raised from the event goes directly to our charity partner The Common Good for much needed transplant research.

Australian Unity is a mutual organisation founded on the premise of contributing to peoples Real Wellbeing and the Australian Unity Tour de Brisbane is an event that has great synergies for us, because it too contributes to real wellbeing.

Our Herston Quarter redevelopment project team led the charge for Australian Unity putting together a team of riders who collectively raised $5,478 dollars for medical research and who came together to enjoy this great community event.

We’re proud of the difference we have been able to make here and thank our riders for their enthusiastic participation in the event.

This week we celebrate one year since we handed over the restored Lady Lamington, former nurses' quarters, to UniLodge to operate as student accommodation in the Heritage Precinct of Herston Quarter.

It is wonderful to see the heritage icon being utilised as intended and to see the additional buzz of more than 600 students in the precinct.

Today released its social impact report, Our Impact 2022, which details the $1.63 billion the group achieved in community and social value for FY2022.

Herston Quarter is Australian Unity’s and Queensland’s largest social infrastructure project and played a part in contributing towards this value with the assets already brought on line.

We know there is more to come at Herston Quarter and we look forward to further contributing to the success of the group’s social impact in the years ahead.

As part of Indigenous Business Month, Australian Unity recently held a Capability Uplift and Networking event at Quarter for Aboriginal and Torres Strait business leaders in Brisbane.

Now in its eighth year, Indigenous Business Month seeks to inspire the next generation of First Nations business leaders.

“As part of our ongoing Reconciliation Action Plan, our Capability Uplift events aim to share business best practice and strategies with Aboriginal and Torres Strait businesses,” said Oxford, GM of Indigenous Business and Community at Australian Unity.

“Big and small, we provide this insight regardless of their connection or affiliation to Australian Unity,” Trish added.

“The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with appreciation for the event and the opportunity for attendees to showcase their businesses.”

From understanding contract clauses like force majeure and ‘1 in 100 year flood’ insurance, to employee value propositions and S curve development plans—combined with the endless networking and business development conversations—there was endless tangible and topical information shared.

A special thanks our hosts Quarter and speakers Chris Mattes, Kerry Armstrong , Graham Murphy and Naomi Fox—together you made the event a wonderful experience for all.

Group Managing Director Australian Unity – Rohan Mead and CEO Wealth & Capital Markets Esther Kerr-Smith spoke candidly when in Brisbane last month celebrating the rededication of the Edith Cavell Building 100 years after it was first officially opened.

Rohan and Esther spoke of the legacy British nurse Edith Cavell left and then reflected on the six-year journey to-date in the Herston Quarter development and how through this time connections have been made, built on foundations of trust. Click on the video to watch for yourself.
