Today is Grandparent's Day.

Grandparents Day recognises the contribution grandparents make to families, communities, and the economy. It's a day for Queenslanders to say ‘thank you’ to their grandparents for their care and support and for sharing their knowledge, experience, and traditions with younger generations.

A child's interactions with their grandparent are often their first interactions with an older person. Good relationships between grandparents and young people help create and foster positive attitudes toward ageing and older people.

Feel good Friday! 🎶

When our wonderful resident Lorraine won a voucher for a Karaoke Party, she generously donated it to Fair Haven Aged Care, with one cheeky condition: the staff had to provide some of the entertainment. And wow, did they deliver!

The residents were treated to ABBA, Jonny Cash, Kenny Rogers, John Denver and more!

The event was full of laughter, music, and unforgettable memories. Thank you Lorraine for your generosity and our brave staff for stepping up to the mic! 🎤💃🕺

Our Golden Age Aged Care recently had a cultural food day, and this time it was Italian! 🍕🍽️

Residents enjoyed Italian cuisine along with traditional music to suit the occasion. It was a wonderful experience enjoyed by residents and staff, and a great opportunity to recognise and acknowledge the diverse cultures within our communities.

At the beginning of Seniors Month is the International Day of Older Persons. This day celebrate older adults' contributions, raises awareness about aging-related issues, and aims to promote a society where people can grow old with dignity and purpose. ☀️

Our staff at Stanthorpe Aged Care decorated the foyer with a collage of the residents engaged in a variety of lifestyle activities. They also created a 'Family of Knowledge Tree' with photographs of each resident and some information about them that makes each of them special and unique.

Thank you to our wonderful Stanthorpe team for bringing creativity, care, and connection into this important day. Your efforts remind us that every story matters, and every person has wisdom worth sharing. 🌿💛

In Maryborough, a wonderful pen pal friendship has bloomed with St Helens State School. 🏫

At the end of the school term, our residents visited the school to meet their pen pals face-to-face. The students are there to greet residents with big smiles, guiding their pen pals to the hall where games, laughter, and morning tea await.

Our residents Kath, Shirley, Sandy & Trish looked forward to seeing their pen pals and it was lovely to see the connections, sharing of experiences and serves a constant reminder that there is beauty of learning from one another - no matter what age.

Thank you St Helens State School for hosting the morning tea. ☕☀️

Let's hear from some of our Active & Ageless participants at Moonah Park.

One of Moonah Park's first members, Laraine, found out about the fitness program as her husband is in the neighbouring Moonah Park Aged Care facility.

Trudy completed her trial period and chose to continue with classes when she noticed the overwhelming benefits.

Both women spoke of the community and connection they found when they met at Active & Ageless, and now regularly attend classes together, often getting coffee afterwards.

Active and Ageless Online Exercise Programs for over 50's offers a fun, non-intimidating environment for individuals wanting to achieve their fitness goals, focusing on health, community, empowerment, and wellness.

If you are interested in joining our Moonah Park classes in Mitchelton, come along for 5 classes for $20. Fee includes a 1-1 movement screening and postural assessment to provide guidance on the best class type to suit your abilities.

Our Buckingham Gardens Aged Care residents recently enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Historical Resource Centre at Churches of Christ head office in Kenmore. The experience was both informative and engaging, sparking great conversations and memories from those that attended.

Residents were welcomed by Randy Edwards, who joined them for the day. Randy served as a lecturer at Kenmore Christian College for 17 years and has made a lasting impact on the Churches of Christ movement. ⛪

It was truly special to reconnect and share this outing with someone who has contributed so much to our community. Days like these remind us of the importance of connection, storytelling, and celebrating the people who shape our shared history. 🙌
