We’re excited to welcome Ella to our Client Relations Team in the role of receptionist! You will see Ella’s smiling face in the practice on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

☀️ Do you use psychology strategies in your everyday life?
Yes, I have experience with equine therapy and I now use strategies I’ve learned to help overcome issues that pop up in my everyday life.

☀️ Favourite food?
Italian and seafood, put the 2 together and I’m in heaven!

☀️ Do you have any pets?
I have lots of pets. My horse, Ruby has given me so much strength and courage. My dogs Dusty, Tilly and Trevor who love me unconditionally.

☀️ What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love just sitting in the paddock and talking to my horse. Being outside in the fresh air is where I belong. I love spending time with my dogs. I also have a nephew, who I adore, so any time spent with him is cherished.

As we head into flu season, we wanted to remind our clients about our Attendance Policy.

We understand that events may be beyond your control and can be genuine reasons for late cancellation however, we will be adhering to our policy. Thank you for anyone who has already understood and respected this.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please provide us with 48 hours’ notice to avoid a fee.

In many cases, there is the option to change your appointment to a telehealth (video) session. Contact our admin team via phone, email or SMS and they can assist you.

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the current moment, aware of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and environment without judgment. It involves observing what's happening inside and around you with a sense of openness and curiosity, rather than reacting automatically.

Benefits of mindfulness:
• reduce stress and anxiety
• improve focus and concentration
• enhance emotional well-being
• calm the nervous system

Over time, mindfulness can also boost emotional resilience, helping you respond to challenges with greater clarity and patience. Even a few minutes a day can make a noticeable difference in how grounded, focused, and balanced you feel.

Here are some simple ways to practice mindfulness in your daily life:

▫️ Mindful Breathing ▫️
Just take a few minutes to focus on your breath. Inhale slowly, feel the air entering your nose, and exhale gently. Repeat. If your mind wanders, gently bring it back.

▫️ Body Scan ▫️
Close your eyes and mentally scan your body from head to toe, noticing any sensations, tension, or discomfort. No need to change anything—just observe.

▫️ Mindful Eating ▫️
Eat slowly and pay attention to the flavors, textures, and smells. Try putting down your utensils between bites.

▫️ Five Senses Exercise ▫️
This is a great way to ground yourself!
Pause and notice: 5 things you can see, 4 you can touch, 3 you can hear, 2 you can smell, 1 you can taste.

▫️ Single-Tasking ▫️
Choose one task and give it your full attention. Whether it’s brushing your teeth or walking the dog, stay fully present.

▫️ Daily gratitude reflection ▫️
At the end of the day, reflect back and think of 3 things you’re grateful for. It’s ok if your day wasn’t great, but surprisingly you might recall some small glimmers to feel grateful for.

Healing isn’t always visible, and trauma doesn’t need validation to be real. ✨🫶

💭 You don’t have to remember everything for it to affect you. Trauma is often stored in fragmented ways, making some memories unclear but still impactful.

💛 Grieving who you were before is valid. Trauma can shift identity and self-perception, and part of healing is making space for both who you were and who you’re becoming.

🌿 High-functioning doesn’t mean unhurt. Many people appear “fine” while struggling deeply, and their pain is just as real.

🌸 Not everyone will understand your trauma, and that’s okay. You don’t owe explanations—your healing is yours alone.

Our Story

The Glow Centre is a private allied health practice in Kenmore, in Brisbane’s western suburbs. The Glow Centre was originally established in 2013 as Melissa Kent Psychology, by clinical psychologist Melissa Kent in Melbourne, Victoria. Melissa and the practice relocated to Brisbane in 2016. The practice has grown steadily since then, establishing a reputation for excellence in building relationships with clients and other services in the community, and achieving excellent outcomes for its clients.

The Glow Centre offers allied health services including psychology and psychiatry, as well as support groups for clients, with the aim of helping people find their glow after whatever storm life has thrown at them.
