Minoxidil was first approved by the FDA in 1988 for the management of hair loss and since then, various forms of topical minoxidil came to market but they all have at least 32.5% alcohol and sometimes even up to 70% alcohol, depending which product you choose.

Can I crush my own Finasteride tablet and add alcohol to make Finasteride solution?

It's not quite so straight forward. Tablets come with other excipients in addition to the active ingredient such as:

🔵 Binder - binds everything together so it doesn’t crumble during transport.

🔵 Disintegrant - an additive that promotes disintegration of the tablet once it is ingested.

🔵 Filler ingredients - makes up the rest of the tablet.

To seperate the ingredients, you would to remove the excipients using a filtration method with the right solvent. You also need to calculate the molecular weight of each ingredient so you can effectively remove them. It's messy.

Does dandruff cause hair loss?

Research suggests that there is a correlation between hair loss and Malassezia overgrowth (the fungus that causes flakiness and scalp itching).

Malassezia is thought to accelerate hair loss by increasing scalp inflammation.

There is also research suggesting that resolving Malassezia overgrowth may enhance hair regrowth and products containing 2% Ketoconazole have shown to be far superior than 1%.

Should everyone with hair loss be using a Ketoconazole shampoo?

Not necessarily.

The studies show those who benefited the most from Ketaconazole shampoo had pre-existing dandruff.
