What is like waiting for a loved one to die?

When we know a loved one is at the end of life, it obviously brings up some massive feelings. Some of relief, some of deep sadness or anger or confusion and sometimes it can feel like your heart is literally breaking.

Whatever arises it’s important to meet those feelings with honesty and seek support for yourself so you can process your loved ones transition as it unfolds…….because when a loved one passes not only do they transition but so do we.

We are working our way through deep profound feelings while sitting with moving forward in our life without the physical presence of our beloved person.

It’s big s**t and we need to talk about it.

Keep it real.

Sarah Irelands' latest blog post from our recent Djakamirr Training in Galiwin'ku.

The third time we have delivered the Cert II for the project.

So thrilled and honoured to be signing up for another year of work alongside this awesome project, Sarah, Lawurrupa, Gundjarranbuy, Guyupul, the Djakamirr CoOp, the local Yonlgu women, the Molly team and Sh'ana and Kaite.
What a privilege and a blessing.

Its NATIONAL SORRY DAY also known as the National Day of Healing, an annual event in Australia, It commemorates the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, a practice known as the Stolen Generations.

The day also marks the anniversary of the “Bringing Them Home” report, which highlighted the impacts of these removals and recommended an apology.

There are women I have met in community whose children were taken or they themselves were removed from their families.

We need to address the tragedy and trauma for all survivors of this horrific time in our history.

The ocean….the beach…my happy place 🏖️

A place I find solitude and peace.

The ocean, vitalising, invigorating and intoxicating.

I can stop and catch my breath here and keep dreaming.

I can feel gratitude for all I have, even on the toughest days.

One day at a time 🙏

My beautiful Bailey turns 9 today! 🥳

What a blessing this big guy has been in my life. He was about 14 months old when we met and he was a mess.

He was still recovering from being attacked by other dogs in the kennel where he was born and raised and was so, thin, timid and shy and had just had his many stitches removed.

It was a lot of work to bring out the confident, awesome companion he his today. There was a couple of times, after tearing the third Dona and sheet set on my bed, that I almost gave up on him. 😢

He has never let me down, he is gentle and loves with all his heart. 💗

Seeing him run and play on the beach (his favourite place) makes me so happy. He deserves the freedom.

Happy birthday to the best therapist I’ve ever had.

Love you old boy 😍

I studied with David Kessler to become a grief educator and I can’t recommend him and us work enough.

His books and work are from the heart and his lived experiences and are informative and inspiring.

All grief is unique. I have no doubt this free live event on navigating grief when a parent dies will be helpful for those who maybe be experiencing this first hand or for doulas who want to support their clients.

When we lose a parent, the world changes forever.

Whether they were our role model, our safe place, or our greatest challenge, their loss is life-altering. It reshapes our identity, shifts family dynamics, and stirs up emotions we didn’t expect.

Grieving a parent is a deeply personal journey, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Join me for a live online conversation on navigating this unique grief.

📅 February 11, 2025

⏰ 3:00 pm PT / 6:00 pm ET

We’ll talk about:

Why grief after losing a parent feels so different
Ways to honor their memory with love, not pain
How to adapt to new roles and family traditions
Releasing guilt and creating a legacy of connection

Grief deserves a safe space to be expressed and understood. This will be recorded for those who register.

Please share with others who might need this space. 💛
