WD Thomas Activity Centre

We were delighted to welcome our first guest speakers of the year: Colleen, Ross, and Gwen from the Rotary Club of Kerang. It was incredibly informative to hear about the vital work they do right here in our small community.
Our attendees loved the chance to chat and brainstorm how we can get involved in their upcoming local projects. Stay tuned for more on our community engagement plans!

A massive shout-out to the Kerang Clearance Warehouse for their generous donation of craft supplies and bingo prizes. Your support keeps our activities vibrant and fun!

We enjoyed a screening of the Aussie classic, Smiley, which had everybody in stitches with his cheeky and mischievous ways.
We have begun to read stories from Saluting their Service by Noel Fisher which is a heartfelt tribute to our veterans within our community. With many who attend the centre knowing the people who served has been even more interesting.

Glenarm.

The past couple of weeks have seen various activities undertaken, mostly indoors, due to the extremely hot weather!

Art/craft - ladies enjoyed making “patchwork” apples.

Games - Mexican Trains/Dominoes & Skipbo are always popular.

Baking - lemon slice was prepared by the ladies & enjoyed by all for afternoon tea.

Bingo- has been very well attended & everyone leaves smiling with their prizes of chocolates.
Volunteer Kerry now has a matching bingo outfit!

The resident magpie family has enjoyed cooling off in the garden fountain-to the amusement of us all!

WDTAC.

The WD Thomas Activity Centre has had to modify its program due to recent hot weather. Our waffles and toasty day was a huge hit, thank's to Pam's delicious recipe and some fantastic entertainment from Gavin Hardy, Ian and Trevor from Cohuna. When we had the chance the men took to the golf course with plenty of hole in ones to celebrate. We look forward to February's Program.

Kerang District Health has proudly celebrated the successful completion of our first KTHS School Based Apprenticeship Traineeship (SBAT), with Hallie Murphy completing her Certificate III in Individual Support.

KDH commenced this partnership in 2024 and is strongly committed to continuing and growing this program long-term, supporting the development of future healthcare professionals within our community.

Congratulations to Hallie Murphy on this fantastic achievement. Hallie will now commence her Diploma of Nursing at Swan Hill TAFE, while continuing to gain valuable hands-on experience at KDH in her role as a Health Care Worker.

We are incredibly proud of you, Hallie, and look forward to supporting you as you continue your nursing journey.

Due to the extreme heat our services will be reduced or limited. Remember, there are steps you can take to protect yourself or others.

- Keep Cool: use air conditioning/fans, wear light clothing, and cool your skin with water. If your home is too hot, go somewhere cooler such as a public pool or air-conditioned building.
- Stay Hydrated: drink plenty of water regularly, even before you feel thirsty, especially when outdoors or active.
- Check on others: look out for family, friends and neighbors, particularly those over the age of 65 years, babies and young children, pregnant women, people with acute or chronic health problems, those who have acute or chronic health problems and those who are socially isolated or limited with ways to stay cool.
- Plan ahead: monitor weather forecasts and schedule activities for cooler parts of the day.
- Hot cars kill: never leave kids, adults or pets in cars. The temperature inside a parked car can double within minutes.
- If needed, call Nurse-On-Call on 1300 60 60 24 or Victorian Virtual Emergency Department at https://www.vved.org.au/.
- In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).

Glenarm.

It's been a wonderful week at Glenarm. CWA bike rides recommenced last week, and we extend a big thank you to volunteer Bryan for giving his time to provide this valued service.

On Friday, many joined for the unveiling of the First Nations Acknowledge plaque, followed by a lovely morning tea. Later that afternoon, residents had the chance to connect with CEO Kellie Byron-Gray, and we're pleased that these catch-ups have become a regular event.

Yesterday we welcomed back entertainer Johnny Boyle, who is always popular with the audience!
