Last Sunday, it was a pleasure to present for Eyerising to share with colleagues our myopia management expertise using red light therapy (RLRL) for our myopia patients. Our team members Mikayla, Ruby and Olivia also attended the optometry conference to see and learn about the latest in eye care technologies and treatments that will benefit our patients.

One of the endearing aspects of myopia management and paediatric eye care is seeing the kids grow up. Claudia first came to see us when she was just 2 years old and getting her first pair of glasses for myopia. At age 4 she became our youngest OrthoK patient, enjoying clarity of vision without glasses starting primary school. In almost the blink of an eye she’s now almost 10, wearing her OrthoK lenses every night and her myopia well managed. Changing kids’ lives is such a rewarding part of what we do in our clinic, everyday. ❤️

👁️ Myopia Awareness Week 2025 👁️
Join us at Eyecare Concepts | Myopia Clinic Melbourne as we shine a spotlight on the growing issue of myopia (short-sightedness)—especially in children. Early awareness and action can make a lasting difference.

Here are 4 essential tips for preventing and managing myopia effectively:

✅ 1. Spend More Time Outdoors
Aim for at least 90 minutes of natural outdoor light daily—proven to reduce the risk of myopia progression.

✅ 2. Take Regular Screen Breaks
Follow the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet away.

✅ 3. Maintain Proper Reading Distance
Keep books, screens, and devices at a safe viewing distance—ideally more than 30cm from your eyes.

✅ 4. Get Regular Eye Checks
Annual eye exams are vital, especially for children. Early detection = better management!

We are delighted to welcome and introduce Dr Jessica Atme who recently joined our optometry team at Eyecare Concepts | The Myopia Clinic Melbourne.

Jessica is a therapeutically endorsed Doctor of Optometry (OD) from the University of Melbourne. She has received awards for her academic achievement and excellence in clinical care. With a postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Contact Lenses from the Australian College of Optometry, Jessica has a special interest in orthokeratology (OrthoK), scleral lenses and custom RGP contact lenses, and management of dry eye disease.

Her skills and passion in paediatric vision care and myopia management means your child is in excellent hands with Jessica at our clinic. She is our senior associate optometrist consulting 4 days a week.
