Nick Moss Neuro Performance

Nick Moss Neuro Performance My background and experience are diverse - the military, fitness industry and hospitality. I knew there was so much more to discover about the human condition.

I was deployed to conflict zones around the world during my time in the armed forces. This career allowed me to see some amazing things and also showed me that I was capable of achieving anything I put my mind to. On the other hand, being trained to operate in survival mode constantly also presented me with some unique challenges to overcome when I re-entered civilian life. Over the last 5 years, I have completely re-invented myself by working on the limiting beliefs and patterns that were preventing me from truly expressing myself in the way I was meant to. I’ve picked up many tools to ground myself and develop an inner strength and balance along the way. This work sparked my quest for meaning and understanding in what can be a confusing and stressful world. When I left the armed forces, I worked as a personal trainer but felt I could only get to a certain point with clients. I came to realise that the mind and body are much more connected than I first thought. This led me on a journey of self discovery, and my eventual studies in Holistic Kinesiology and Mind Body Medicine. My Approach in Clinic

I draw on ancient wisdom combined with cutting-edge scientific developments in my clinic. Bringing together an innovative and empowering approach to healing and personal growth. The connection between the client and practitioner is the key to the success of treatment. If you decide to become a client of mine, and you enter into the process with an open mind and willing heart, I promise that you will be forever changed in the way you view yourself, others and even life itself. The clients who do well in my clinic are those who are open and willing to change, take responsibility for their own health, are open minded, resilient and willing to do the work that is required. Diaphragm

The Diaphragm (system) consists of the Diaphragm, the Psoas muscle, the SCM (sternocleodomastoid) and scalenes primarily but we could probably include the pelvic floor muscles and cranial bones in that system also.

When addressing faulty breathing mechanics we have to consider all these muscles and systems.
In my clinical experience around 85-90 percent of people display faulty breathing mechanics. These mechanics often underlie many common structural issues such as neck, hip, back, shoulder and even knee pain. Looking at these muscles and where they are situated probably explains why.

I will place the Diaphragm right up there after the Brain and Limbic System in terms of homeostatic importance. Not only for purely breathing but as a structural system this needs to be addressed.
At Functional Neuro Kinetics we always assess breathing and Diaphragm Neurology, regardless of your pain complaint.
Keys to areas to release and activate to improve Diaphragm activity.
1️⃣ - Thoracolumbar Fascia (release)
2️⃣ - Psoas (activate)
3️⃣ - Sternum Fascia (release)
4️⃣ - Sternocleidomastoid’s and Scalene’s (release then activate)
5️⃣ - Diaphragm (releases then activate)
6️⃣ - Upper traps and Latts (release)
7️⃣ - Deep neck flexors (activate)

There is more to it than that of course but this can be a good place to start.

Teaching the Integrative Exercise Therapy module to the Sports Kinesiology students this week for the first time ever! They learned about the importance of the brain and neural development when assessing and programming for corrective exercise. They were pushed with the amount of information but they took it on well. More to come next week and look forward to seeing them become not only competent, but elite practitioners in rehabilitation.
