Key Benefits of Remedial Massage

An immediate benefit of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm, this occurs because therapeutic touch prompts the release of endorphins, the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of wellbeing. Some of the physical benefits of massage include:
• Reduced muscle tension, tones and relaxing muscles
• Improved circulation and stimulation of the lymphatic system
• Reduction of stress hormones
• Increase joint mobility and flexibility
• Improved skin tone
• Speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms
• Gives a sense of overall Wellbeing
• A calming effect on the peripheral nervous system which eases pain and discomfort in the body
• Relaxation that allows our minds and bodies to recharge and rejuvenate

It is important to drink plenty of water after the massage to flush metabolic waste from the tissues. Therapeutic Touch
Therapeutic touch has shown to increase attention span, memory recall, laughter, relaxation, vitality and social interaction, posture, body awareness and skin colour. Improves blood circulation, relieves pain, increase ROM, and helps maintain and improve overall health and retain certain physical functions. There is a reduction in anxiety and provides comfort. Massage means interaction; there is a physical and emotional effect on your client with a massage. The lack of touch can lead to psychiatric or physical problems, it can lead to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and lethargy, lack of caring touch can result in diminishing quality of life. Qualified Massage Techniques

Swedish massage - uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding, petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping, friction (cross fibre) and vibration/shaking. Deep Tissue Focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas, the strokes are slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. Trigger Point Therapy involves deactivating trigger points within muscles that may cause local pain or refer pain and other sensations, (such as headaches) in other parts of the body. Manual pressure is applied to these points to relieve myofascial pain. Myofascial Release Therapy - refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception. Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions or by skin rolling. Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage technique used to gently work and stimulate the lymphatic system, to assist in the reduction of localised swelling. Reflexology - based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that relate to every organ, gland, and system of the body. Passive & Active Stretching - stretching techniques used to gradually increase the range of movement. PNF Stretching - Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation stretching is a combination of passive and isometrics contractions to increase range of movement to improve biomechanics. What is Reiki

Reiki is the name for a Japanese healing method that corrects energy imbalances in the body and is applied through the hands. The result is a deeply relaxing experience which is excellent for stress management and self-healing. Reiki is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life-force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, depression, anxiety and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy, increasing our built-in defences. This can manifest itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. It can also help you gain a positive outlook on life! When we are relaxed, stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal.

Women’s Health Week 2025 (1–5 Sept)
✨ Theme: Say Yes to You ✨

When was the last time you paused to ask yourself:
What truly brings me joy?
What fills me with peace?

We move through life so quickly—caring, achieving, giving—often without tending to the quiet wisdom within.

This week is your invitation to come home to yourself.
- To say YES to your wellbeing.
- YES to your needs.
- YES to the truth that you matter.

Take a moment to check in with your body.
Ask: “What are you trying to tell me?”
Listen. Feel. Trust what arises.

Your health is more than physical.
It’s Mental. Emotional. Spiritual.
It’s the food you eat, the thoughts you think, the boundaries you hold, the rest you allow.

🌀 Are you nourishing every part of your being?
🌀 Where are you pouring out more than you’re filling up?

Self-care is not a luxury—it’s your foundation. And it’s personal. What you need will change. So reassess often. Tend with love.

As Dr Christiane Northrup reminds us:
“Every thought you think is accompanied by biochemical signals that move throughout your body.”

Your beliefs shape your biology. Speak gently. Feed yourself wisely—on every level.

This Women’s Health Week, let this be your reminder:
🌿 Say yes to rest.
🌿 Say yes to nourishment.
🌿 Say yes to joy.
🌿 Say yes to you.

Did you know it takes around 70 to 80 days for s***m to fully regenerate?

S***m is not a fleeting spark.
It’s a slow, sacred becoming—
each one formed through a dance of discipline, energy, and time.

Born in the te**es, matured in the epididymis,
every s***m is the result of a long internal journey—
impacted by what you eat, how you sleep,
what you feel, and how you live.

S***m lives for up to 5 days within the female body,
but its creation spans months. What you do today shapes your fertility two cycles from now.

This is the unseen preparation:
A reminder that the masculine is not just action, but devotion. That potency is built slowly, in silence, in rhythm, in trust.

Let this remind you:
The body is a vessel of creation.
Your choices matter.
Your seed is sacred.

Did you know your egg only lives for 12 to 24 hours after ovulation?

She doesn’t linger.
She arrives with purpose,
and if not met by s***m,
she dissolves quietly—
absorbed back into your body’s wisdom.

This fleeting moment is nature’s way of saying:
“Now is the time.”

The egg carries no armour.
She’s soft, open, and receptive.
She trusts that the body has prepared the way—
that s***m may already be waiting,
held gently in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days.

This is the fertile window:
A sacred dance of timing, intuition, and possibility.

Let this remind you:
Your body is wise.
Your rhythms are sacred.

And your fertility is not just biology—
It’s a story of trust, timing, and deep inner knowing.

Just like your menstrual cycle, your libido is a vital sign of your overall health.

A recent article by .vitti, author of In the Flo, highlights how a healthy libido is more than just desire — it’s a reflection of your internal balance.

“The main thing is that at any age, and especially if you’re over 35, if you are experiencing a major shift or drop in libido altogether, then this is a big red flag.” – Alisa Vitti

A drop in libido can signal:
🔻 Low nitric oxide and oxytocin (key for heart health and overall wellness)
🔻 Hormone imbalances
🔻 Micronutrient deficiencies
🔻 Long-term low-fat dieting
🔻 Hormonal birth control
🔻 Adrenal fatigue
🔻 Iron deficiency
🔻 Pregnancy or postpartum shifts

Your libido is cyclical too — rising during your “inner summer” (ovulation, when testosterone peaks), and naturally lowering in your “inner winter” (menstruation). As we age, it may require more care and cultivation.

You can support your libido by:
🥑 Eating healthy fats (like avocado, nuts & seeds)
🌿 Upping your leafy greens
🧬 Supporting hormone balance
🩺 Replenishing depleted micronutrients
🌸 Talking to a professional about targeted herbs & supplements
💆‍♀️ And yes — regular activity can improve circulation to the pelvic area

Small shifts in nutrition, lifestyle, and self-awareness can reconnect you to your vitality, pleasure, and sense of self.

As we come to the end of World Breastfeeding Week lets take a moment to celebrate the incredible bond between mother and child and the remarkable journey of breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding is not just about nourishing your baby; it’s a profound connection that nurtures their growth and development. It provides vital nutrients and antibodies, boosting their immune system and setting the foundation for a healthy life.

Breastfeeding education ideally begins during pregnancy, helping parents understand how birth can influence the breastfeeding journey and how to approach it with confidence. Sadly, hospital routines and policies can often disrupt the natural flow from birth to breastfeeding.

Many women have benefited from using The Thompson Method, a gentle evidence based approach developed by midwife Robyn Thompson. Robyn believed that when women are respected and given access to the right information and skilled guidance, they can breastfeed with confidence and avoid unnecessary pain, for as long as they choose.

A free guide with practical breastfeeding tips is available at thethompsonmethod.com or follow .thompson.method for more support. Here are some key recommendations:
* Avoid unnecessary interventions during labour and birth
* Minimise or avoid op**te pain relief where possible
* Prioritise immediate skin-to-skin contact after birth
* Delay routine checks until after skin-to-skin and the first breastfeed (where possible)
* Limit unnecessary handling of your baby by others in the early hours and days
* Feed from both breasts often, with a gentle ‘rest and digest’ pause between sides

If you struggle to breastfeed or experience painful complications, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or a Thompson Method practitioner can be an invaluable ally, guiding both mothers and babies to overcome hurdles and find the joy in breastfeeding.

And let’s not forget the power of post-partum massage! A nurturing massage can work wonders for new mothers, aiding the body’s healing process after birth, relaxing both body and mind, and promoting a healthy flow of breastmilk.

Happy International Day of Friendship!

As humans, we’re wired for connection. Having a community—our “tribe”—isn’t just nice, it’s essential for our health and wellbeing.

A study published in the Journal of Women & Aging found that women experience a drop in cortisol levels (our primary stress hormone) after chatting with female friends. It reinforces what many of us already feel—that leaning on our friends in tough times can be a natural and effective way to cope.

The study also showed that women—regardless of age—benefit more when talking to familiar friends, not strangers. That sense of safety and being seen helps to calm the nervous system.

Friendship is more than coffee dates and laughs (though those are wonderful!). It’s a buffer during hard times—especially for those navigating fertility journeys, early motherhood, or menopause. These seasons can feel isolating, but you don’t have to do it alone.

Whether it’s a tight-knit group or that one ride-or-die friend, it helps to seek out the people who get it. Because nothing beats feeling heard, supported, and held.

Today, let’s celebrate the women who’ve stood by us. And if you’re still looking for your tribe? Keep going. Whether online or in person, the right support makes all the difference.

Send your people some love today—you never know who needs it.

Did you know that nearly all mammals consume their placenta after birth? This instinctive act is believed to support postpartum healing, in fact Traditional Chinese Medicine has long honored the placenta—sometimes placing a small piece under the tongue to control bleeding.

Many mothers today are now continuing this tradition through placenta encapsulation.

Placenta encapsulation involves preparing and drying the placenta to be taken in capsule form. While large clinical studies are still limited, anecdotal evidence is overwhelmingly positive. Mothers often report:
🌿 Increased energy
🌿 Boosted milk supply
🌿 Reduced postpartum bleeding
🌿 More stable moods

Once birthed, the placenta is rich in iron, protein, stem cells, vitamins, minerals, and hormones—everything your body created to sustain life is now available to help you recover.

As hormones like Oestrogen drop drastically after birth (a shift linked to postpartum depression), many believe placenta capsules help ease this transition. It also contains CRH, a hormone that supports your stress response and adrenal function.

“The placenta doesn’t store toxins, it filters them. The placenta’s role is to protect your baby: it passes nutrients and oxygen to the baby… and helps keep harmful substances out.  With proper preparation, food handling and protocols, placenta encapsulation is safe, respectful and deeply supportive for so many mothers.” The Freo Doula

⚠️ You should not encapsulate if:
* You had an infection during labor or birth
* Your placenta was sent to a hospital pathology

Ultimately, this is a personal choice. But for many, placenta encapsulation offers a gentle, powerful support during one of life’s most vulnerable transitions.

Did you know today is International Moon Day? It marks the anniversary of the first human landing on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.

For centuries, cultures across the world have followed the moon’s cycles, celebrating its phases in ritual and rhythm. Women in particular have long felt a deep connection between the moon and their menstrual cycle — both typically lasting around 28-30 days.

Dr. Christiane Northrup beautifully captures this link: “The moon itself has a period when it is covered with darkness, and then slowly... becomes visible again, gradually waxing to fullness. Women, too, go through a period of darkness each month... when the life-force may seem to disappear for a while.”

So how can we align with the moon for better wellbeing?
✨ Waning Moon to New Moon: Time to rest, reflect, release. Let go of what no longer serves you.
✨ Waxing Moon: A phase for growth and action. Move toward your goals with joyful purpose.
✨ Full Moon: Step into your power. Express yourself. Begin anew.
✨ Moon Baths: Spend 15 mins soaking in the moonlight each night—reconnecting with nature’s rhythm.
✨ Moon Rituals: Dance, drum, gather in women’s circles, or simply share sacred space with friends.

Even without a regular cycle, you can use the moon as your guide. Studies show lunar phases influence hormones and melatonin. Seed cycling alongside the moon is a gentle, natural way to support balance—especially during perimenopause or menopause.

Let the moon light your way.

What to Eat During Labour?

Let’s talk about what to eat during labour. Because let’s face it while you’ve probably spent time writing a birthing plan and preparing a hospital or home birth kit, many women don’t consider what to eat or drink during labour. You want food and drink that keeps your energy up without making you feel heavy or sluggish.

First up: dates! Dates have been used for hundreds of years in parts of the Middle East, Asia & Africa during pregnancy and birth. Some studies show dates might support better labour outcomes—but the research isn’t yet verified. But, if you love them and don’t have gestational diabetes, go ahead and enjoy a couple!

Tips to keep blood sugar stable with dates:
- Stick to 1–2 at a time
- Pair with protein (think cheese, nut butter or a boiled egg) and a veggie
- Go for a 10–20 min walk after – it can help reduce a sugar spike.

During labour, your body’s working hard, so focus on light, nourishing snacks that are easy to digest and keep your energy steady. Think:
🥣 Greek yoghurt with berries
🥬 Mini frittata with veggies & goat cheese
🥒 Green smoothie with plant protein
🍚 Brown rice/quinoa with avo, egg or cheese
🍌 Banana or apple with nut butter
🌰 Dried fruit & nuts (unsulfured if possible)
🍯 Spoonful of raw honey for quick energy
🍫 Homemade bliss balls or granola bars

And don’t forget to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Aim for a few sips every 15–30 mins with:
🥥 Coconut water or water with Celtic sea salt added - for healthy electrolytes
🍵 Raspberry leaf tea – known to gently support contractions
🥣 Miso soup or bone broth – especially if you’re feeling queasy
🍎 Diluted apple juice
🍉 Juicy fruits like watermelon or cucumber – frozen watermelon is very refreshing

Labour is like a marathon, not a sprint—so think slow, steady fuel. Small, frequent bites and sips can go a long way in keeping your energy stable and your body feeling supported. Listen to what feels good, stay hydrated, and don’t stress if you’re not hungry. Everyone’s experience is different—just do what works best for you.
