Key Benefits of Remedial Massage

An immediate benefit of massage is a feeling of deep relaxation and calm, this occurs because therapeutic touch prompts the release of endorphins, the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that produce feelings of wellbeing. Some of the physical benefits of massage include:
• Reduced muscle tension, tones and relaxing muscles
• Improved circulation and stimulation of the lymphatic system
• Reduction of stress hormones
• Increase joint mobility and flexibility
• Improved skin tone
• Speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms
• Gives a sense of overall Wellbeing
• A calming effect on the peripheral nervous system which eases pain and discomfort in the body
• Relaxation that allows our minds and bodies to recharge and rejuvenate

It is important to drink plenty of water after the massage to flush metabolic waste from the tissues. Therapeutic Touch
Therapeutic touch has shown to increase attention span, memory recall, laughter, relaxation, vitality and social interaction, posture, body awareness and skin colour. Improves blood circulation, relieves pain, increase ROM, and helps maintain and improve overall health and retain certain physical functions. There is a reduction in anxiety and provides comfort. Massage means interaction; there is a physical and emotional effect on your client with a massage. The lack of touch can lead to psychiatric or physical problems, it can lead to depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and lethargy, lack of caring touch can result in diminishing quality of life. Qualified Massage Techniques

Swedish massage - uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding, petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping, friction (cross fibre) and vibration/shaking. Deep Tissue Focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue, especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas, the strokes are slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. Trigger Point Therapy involves deactivating trigger points within muscles that may cause local pain or refer pain and other sensations, (such as headaches) in other parts of the body. Manual pressure is applied to these points to relieve myofascial pain. Myofascial Release Therapy - refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, integument, and muscles with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and equilibrioception. Myofascial release usually involves applying shear compression or tension in various directions or by skin rolling. Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage technique used to gently work and stimulate the lymphatic system, to assist in the reduction of localised swelling. Reflexology - based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands and feet that relate to every organ, gland, and system of the body. Passive & Active Stretching - stretching techniques used to gradually increase the range of movement. PNF Stretching - Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation stretching is a combination of passive and isometrics contractions to increase range of movement to improve biomechanics. What is Reiki

Reiki is the name for a Japanese healing method that corrects energy imbalances in the body and is applied through the hands. The result is a deeply relaxing experience which is excellent for stress management and self-healing. Reiki is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life-force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, depression, anxiety and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy, increasing our built-in defences. This can manifest itself as confidence and outward harmony in dealing with everyday events. It can also help you gain a positive outlook on life! When we are relaxed, stress-free, we are able to restore our natural ability to heal.

“Woman, There is great power in your cyclical nature, for we are nature itself. We, like nature, create life and live by nature’s rhythms. The soft animal that is your truest nature knows this at the deepest level.

Woman, Our job is to remember, to strip away the layers of societal conditioning and interference, the image of the “good girl” and come home to our most natural textures and rhythms. Every or****ic joy, every primal scream, every gut instinct, every deep sorrow and wail of grief, every moment of surrender to rest, the shedding of the old, every ounce of our creative power is to be allowed, honored, and again made sacred.

Woman, You are sacred. Not only in your brightest light, but also in your darkening. Your greatest power lies in flowing with your rhythm and surrendering the fight against nature, your nature. Because in the end, Mother Nature always wins. Our choice lies in whether or not we choose to assist in her unfolding.”

April 22nd is International Mother Earth Day

Today, we honor the Earth—our shared home, our life source, our Mother. She embodies the divine feminine energy: nurturing, powerful, and infinitely generous. She provides us with everything we need—air, water, food, beauty, balance. But like any mother, she needs care in return.

This year’s Earth Day theme is “OUR POWER, OUR PLANET”— which reflects the idea that Environmental stewardship is sustained by the daily decisions of communities, educators, workers, innovators, and families who understand that protecting the places they live and work is both a responsibility and a long-term investment. (Earth day.org)

It’s a reminder that each of us holds the power to shape the future of this planet. Our choices matter. Our voices matter. Together, we are the power behind the movement toward a cleaner, more just world.

There is a sacred interconnectedness between all living beings and the Earth. When we tap into our feminine energy—whether we identify as women or not—we reconnect with that innate wisdom, compassion, and respect for life. We move in rhythm with nature, not against it.

As activist Jamie Margolin said:
“... if you learn how we are all connected with nature and each other, one person’s suffering is our collected suffering. It’s not the Earth’s suffering, it’s all of our suffering.”

Let today be a reminder: every act of love, protection, and sustainability is a prayer for the future.

Protect what gives us life. Honor the feminine. Respect the Earth. Because when she thrives, so do we.

After a long, hot summer, it’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through autumn. The days are getting shorter, the air cooler… and nature is inviting us to slow down and turn inward.

Just like the seasons around us, we move through inner seasons each month within our menstrual cycle. By aligning with these rhythms, we can better understand our bodies, make more supportive choices, and nurture our overall wellbeing.

In the “autumn” phase of our cycle (after ovulation), progesterone becomes dominant. This hormone supports potential pregnancy, nourishes our breasts, and plays an important role in brain and nervous system health.

Energetically, this is a time for discernment. You may notice you have less to give — and that’s okay. It’s the perfect time to set boundaries, say “no” when needed, and prioritise rest.

If we enter this phase already feeling depleted, hormone levels can drop more quickly, leaving us feeling out of sync — think irritability, mood swings, or sugar cravings.
Instead of pushing through, this season invites reflection. What’s no longer working? What needs to shift? Give yourself space to listen.

And if you can, tread gently in your relationships — sensitivity can be higher now, and slowing down can help avoid unnecessary conflict.

Honour your autumn.

On this beautiful Easter Sunday, as we gather with loved ones to celebrate the joys of the season, let’s take comfort in the warmth of love, the light of hope, and the embrace of family.

Today is not just about colourful eggs and sweet treats; it’s about the profound symbolism of renewal and rebirth that Easter brings. As we indulge in the delights of the day, let’s also reflect on the opportunity it presents to connect with ourselves and embrace the symbols of new beginnings, fertility and rebirth.

May this Easter be a reminder to nurture the seeds of positivity and change within our hearts.

To all our cherished clients, may your Easter be filled with love, laughter, and the promise of brighter tomorrows.

Happy International Day of Happiness!

Today, March 20th, is a day dedicated to spreading joy, well-being, and compassion. It’s a reminder of the importance of happiness in our lives and the positive impact it has on individuals, communities, and the world at large.

What does happiness mean to you? What brings you Joy? We often find ourselves in the relentless hustle and bustle of life, racing through the days without a moment to single out what brings us genuine happiness and peace.

Take a moment today to spread some happiness and make a commitment to bring more Joy into your life. If you don’t yet have a Joy list, think of at least 10 things that light up your soul with authentic happiness, even if they appear utterly nonsensical to others. The joys that set your heart aglow.

Perform acts of kindness and share positive messages, laughter and smiles.

Be inspired by authors such as Brene Brown and Gretchen Ruben. Visit your local library to find books to inspire joy.

Happiness is a fundamental human right. By fostering happiness and well-being, we can create a more peaceful, equitable, and sustainable world for everyone.

March is Endometriosis Awareness month, which aims to increase awareness on a common yet often misunderstood condition affecting nearly 1 million Australian women. This conditio involves tissue similar to the womb lining growing outside it, causing a range of symptoms. It can start from early in the menstrual journey and many suffer from it for many years.

Common Symptoms include:
Pelvic pain during or around periods.
Fatigue.
Painful ovulation, s*x, bowel movements, and urination.
Pelvic, lower back, or leg pain.
Bladder issues.
Heavy or irregular bleeding.
Infertility.

Endometriosis predominantly affects reproductive organs but can manifest in various parts of the body, from bowel and bladder to skin, joints, lungs, and the brain.

Medical treatment often includes surgery, which aims to remove the lesions, usually within the abdominal cavity.

Lara Briden, a naturopathic doctor who specialises in women’s health, suggests an alternative approach. Lara looks at the inflammatory nature of endometriosis as a form of immune dysfunction stating that “it looks and behaves very much like an autoimmune disease”.

According to Lara, there’s a strong link between endometriosis and gut problems and addressing these should be the foundation of any treatment plan. Excluding inflammatory foods like gluten and dairy may be beneficial.

Once gut issues are under control you “can target the immune system with all the supportive anti-inflammatory nutrients and supplements that the immune system loves.” Lara Briden

Endometriosis is multifaceted, requiring a village of health professionals. Acupuncture, naturopathy, homeopathy, physiotherapy, and psychology can play crucial roles.

At Wonderful Wombs, we’ve supported clients with Endometriosis using targeted womb healing massage, offering relief and improvement in symptoms.

Endometriosis is not just a physical ailment; it’s a complex condition that demands understanding, awareness, and a comprehensive approach to support those affected. Reach out for more information on how we can be part of your support team.

Over a century ago, the first International Women’s Day was held in March 1911. Today, we continue to celebrate women every March 8, honoring their achievements and recognizing their essential contributions to the world.

This day is more than a date on the calendar—it’s a call to action. A reminder to celebrate accomplishments and shine a light on the ongoing journey toward equality.
As we embrace the mission of inspiring inclusion, we nurture a sense of belonging, community, and empowerment for women.

True inclusion means embracing diversity in race, age, ability, faith, body image, and identity. It means recognizing that every woman’s story, every woman’s contribution, matters.

Nikita Gill reminds us of the power of women uplifting women: “Fill your life with women that empower you, that help you believe in your magic and aid them to believe in their own exceptional power and their incredible magic too. Women that believe in each other can survive anything. Women who believe in each other create armies that will win kingdoms and wars.”

This International Women’s Day, let’s celebrate, support, and believe in one another. Together, we can create a world where women’s voices are not just heard, but valued, and where empowerment is shared freely.

Who inspires you to believe in your magic?

People often ask me if I have a table with a “pregnancy hole” so that pregnant women can lie on their bellies (suspended in the prone position) during a massage. Although it sounds appealing, this type of table or pillow is only designed for physiotherapists, chiropractors, and osteopaths who may need pregnant clients to lie face down for a maximum of 10-15 minutes, not for an hour-long massage.

Lying face down during pregnancy can negatively impact the body physiologically and functionally, including adding strain to the lumbar, pelvic, and uterine structures, which are already under pressure from the weight of the baby, amniotic fluid, and placenta.

The side-lying or semi-reclined position is a safer, more comfortable option for pregnant women during a massage. Catherine McInerney, Director of Pregnancy Massage Australia, recommends the side-lying position as the safest option for massage during pregnancy. ‘The side-lying position offers many positive physical and psychological benefits for both mum and baby. This position puts the muscles in the lower back into a relaxed position, and gently lengthens the spine, reducing the effects of lower back pain whilst supporting the abdomen. It also reduces strain on uterine ligaments and prevents an increase in sinus pressure.’

The side-lying fetal position is a comfortable and soothing position, similar to the position in which most people sleep, making it calming physically and psychologically. It also allows for easy and safe access to all areas of the body commonly experiencing aches and pains during pregnancy.

As a massage therapist, my primary principle is to “do no harm” and focus on the safety and well-being of the mother and baby. At Wonderful Wombs we believe the side-lying or semi-reclined positions are safer and more comfortable options for pregnant women during a massage.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month (OCAM) – a time to raise awareness, advocate, and shine a light on Ovarian Cancer, a disease that remains poorly understood by many.

In Australia, over 1,500 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year. Yet, the symptoms are often vague and can be easily mistaken for other health issues like Menopause or IBS.

Common symptoms include:
* Unusual bloating
* Fatigue
* Lower back pain
* Irregular menstrual bleeding
* Changes in bowel or bladder patterns

Over 70% of ovarian cancer diagnoses are made in the advanced stages after the cancer has spread. “The signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer are often vague or non-specific in the early stages, such as unexplained weight changes and appetite loss. This is one of the key reasons why Ovarian Cancer is mostly diagnosed in the advanced stages (3 and 4), when it is harder to treat effectively.” — Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation

Ovarian cancer is typically diagnosed through a pelvic examination, ultrasound, blood tests, and/or CT scan. Unfortunately, there is no screening test available yet, which is why early detection is so crucial.

Let’s keep raising awareness, supporting those affected, and advocating for better research and early detection.

29/01/2026

After childbirth, the focus switches to the baby but new Mums need nurturing support too. Postpartum massage focuses on regeneration, renewal, and release, acknowledging that a mother’s body undergoes rapid changes.

In the journey of bringing new life, a mother’s body must energetically and physically return to a non-pregnant state. Typically, it takes about 6-8 weeks for a woman’s body to regain a semblance of its pre-pregnancy state but the journey to full recovery can extend well beyond those initial weeks.

Some mothers might struggle with issues like hip misalignment, a tailbone injury from delivery, or persistent muscle aches from a demanding labour. These strains associated with labour, nursing, or surgical procedures are a top priority.

Many discomforts of new motherhood can be mediated with massage. Touch helps increase the release of endorphins, rebalance hormones, increase blood flow, and reduce stress and anxiety.

Leslie Stager lists the following benefits of Postpartum massage for both Mum and baby:
* Reduces Muscle Aches
* Improves Posture
* Emotional Support
* Hastens Recovery
* Benefits Breastfeeding
* Benefits Digestion
* Benefits Baby
* Reduces Perineal Discomfort
* Reduces Uterine Prolapse

“Massage for the new mother helps her acclimate to this new life and its demands for adaptation.” - Pregnancy Massage Australia.

Gentle massage can be initiated 24 hours after delivery, assuming that there have been no complications during delivery or afterward. However many women prefer to wait longer before receiving bodywork. This will depend on each individual and we are happy to work with you to determine the appropriate time to begin the post partum massage work. For those who have given birth via a c-section it is recommended to wait 6 weeks before receiving a massage.
