When we experience shock, whether from sudden stress, threat or emotional overwhelm, the bodyâs natural response is often dissociation.
Itâs a protective mechanism, not a failure.
You might feel numb, spaced out, disconnected or like youâre ânot quite here.â This is your nervous system doing its best to keep you safe when things feel too much.
If youâre moving through shock right now, try these gentle supports:
⨠Slow your breathing⌠long exhales help calm the nervous system
⨠Ground yourself through the senses (feet on the floor, noticing what you can see and feel)
⨠Keep yourself warm and hydrated
⨠Reduce stimulation where possible
⨠Most importantly, be kind to yourself⌠healing takes time
Shock is overwhelming, but it doesnât last forever. With safety, compassion and support, your system can gently come back into balance.
If youâre struggling or need guidance, reach out. You donât have to navigate this alone đ
