Our K-Life Residential crew is getting busy preparing for Jumpers and Jazz in July 🎷🧶

This year we’re creating a special installation, and we have a big mission ahead of us… we need to make 400 black pom poms!

Our residents have already started, but we’d love a little help from the community to reach our goal. If you enjoy craft, knitting, or just want to lend a hand and be part of something fun for the festival, we’d love to hear from you.

Last year many people shared their thoughts about health and wellbeing in Killarney and the surrounding region. Thank you to everyone who took the time to be involved.

A great day out for our residents yesterday with a trip to Bunnings 🌿

They enjoyed a fascinating talk all about bamboo and learned a few handy tips about growing and caring for it. Of course, no visit to Bunnings is complete without a wander through the garden centre, and we’re pretty sure a few lovely plants made their way home with us too!

Days like these are always a favourite — getting out, learning something new, and spending time together.

Connection hits different when it’s real.

Last week at Killarney Connect Thursday, our K-Life volunteer students returned to spend time with our residents, bringing books, games and plenty of stories to share. There’s something special about the mix of young energy and lived wisdom in the same room. It just works.

Programs like this remind us that community isn’t complicated. It’s about showing up, sharing time and learning from each other.

Seventeen years. That’s not just a job. That’s legacy.

Last week we gathered for afternoon tea to farewell Daryal, our longest-serving staff member, as he finishes up with K-Life after 17 years of dedicated service.

Daryal has been more than a Registered Nurse. He has been a steady hand, a calm presence and a familiar face to generations of residents and families. In aged care, consistency matters. Relationships matter. Trust matters. Daryal has embodied all three.

His contribution has helped shape the culture of care at K-Life. The compassion he’s shown, the professionalism he’s upheld and the countless small moments of kindness he’s given will not be forgotten.

While we’re incredibly sad to see him go, we are deeply grateful for everything he has poured into our community over nearly two decades.

Thank you, Daryal. You’ve made a lasting difference.

Fresh air, calm water and a fishing line in hand. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Our residents recently headed out for a fishing trip and it was a classic kind of day. Plenty of laughs, a few “the one that got away” stories, and some very serious concentration while waiting for that tug on the line.

Fishing has a way of slowing everything down. It brings back memories of early mornings, family trips and simple weekends done right. For some, it’s about the catch. For others, it’s just about being out there, shoulder to shoulder, doing something that feels familiar and good.

These are the moments that matter. Real experiences. Real connection. Real joy.

Well done to everyone who joined in and to the team who made it happen. 🎣

Thinking about a way to give back that actually feels good? Our K-Life Auxiliary is where connection meets purpose and where a little time goes a long way. It’s a group of community members who meet monthly, raise funds and support our residents with compassion and heart. You’ll make friends, share ideas, and help bring real value to people’s lives in our community.

Meetings are relaxed, usually on the first Friday of the month with morning tea on the table and plenty of laughs. Annual membership is just $5, and every dollar goes straight back into supporting care and comfort for our residents.

Saturday done right. 🎡🌾

Our residents headed along to the Killarney Show, and it delivered. You really cannot beat a proper local show.

There’s something special about these events. They have been bringing communities together for generations. Kids running around with fairy floss. Farmers talking shop. Old friends bumping into each other near the cattle ring. It is simple, but it matters.

For our residents, it was more than just a day out. It was fresh air, real connection, shared laughs, and being part of the wider community. That is what it is all about.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped make the day happen. We are already looking forward to next year.

Killarney Connect-ions at K-Life💛

Our older friends were all smiles as local Killarney students came in for an afternoon of connection, stories and shared hobbies. You could feel the joy in the room. Real conversations. Real laughter. No phones. Just people sitting together the way it’s always been done.

This is what intergenerational connection looks like. Young and old learning from each other. Wisdom meeting curiosity. History shaking hands with the future.

Moments like this matter more than we realise. They build respect. They build empathy. They build community.

Happy Killarney Show Day!

Since the first show in 1908, the Killarney Show has been at the heart of this town. From horses and cattle to rodeos and show balls, it’s been a celebration of local pride and community spirit for generations.

Some of our K-Life residents have lived here their whole lives and remember when the Show was the biggest event on the calendar.

This year, they’re looking forward to heading back to the grounds, taking it all in, and being part of the tradition once again.

Volunteer Appreciation Post 🤍

Meet Neil.

Neil shows up three times a week for our residents at K-Life. Not because he has to. Because he wants to. And that says a lot.

Our residents genuinely look forward to their card games with him. There’s laughter, a bit of friendly competition. It’s simple stuff. Cards on a table. Time shared. Presence given. That’s the kind of thing that actually matters.

And every now and then… there may be a quiet little nip of scotch involved. We’ll keep that between us.

Volunteers like Neil remind us that community is built the old-fashioned way. Showing up. Being consistent. Caring about people.

Neil, we see you. And we’re grateful.

Busy day on the calendar at K-Life Residential today and honestly, this is what good living looks like. 💛

Our residents had plenty happening:

🎶 9:30am – Sing-a-long with Heather
🪵 1:30pm – Woodwork with Tim
🌿 1:30pm – Gardening in Kadimah
💪 4:00pm – Chair exercise in Magnolia

Music, creativity, fresh air, movement, connection. A full day of doing the things that keep life rich and meaningful.
