Maureen Runge Profile:
Maureen Runge, a passionate artist, calls the town of Kilmore her home. Her artistic journey commenced in 1987 when she first dipped her brush into the world of oil painting. However, she quickly discovered that the medium did not resonate with her creative spirit. Undeterred, Maureen sought guidance from esteemed Australian artists Herman Pekel and Giselle Bolitin Maynard, refining her skills and expanding her artistic horizons. Primarily self-taught in the captivating wet-on-wet technique, she revels in the spontaneity and challenges this style presents, allowing her creativity to flow freely on the canvas.
Over the years, Maureen has held six notable solo exhibitions in a variety of vibrant venues, showcasing her exceptional talent. Her exhibitions have graced spaces such as the Eltham Library, the Ivanhoe Fire Station, Volumes Eltham, Rivers Nursery in Yarrambat, the scenic Heathcote Winery, and the charming Willira Gallery in Kilmore. Since 1993, her artistic contributions have garnered numerous awards, including a painting acquired by Bendigo Rotary and accolades from the Heathcote Art Society. A highlight of her career was having one of her paintings selected for the prestigious 2018 Victorian Wine Festival, a testament to her skill and dedication.
In addition to her work in oil painting, Maureen has ventured into the world of portraiture, mastering the art of pastels through self-directed study. She thrives on challenges and enjoys painting a rich array of subjects—capturing the essence of figures, the vibrant beauty of flowers depicted from life, serene boat scenes, sweeping landscapes, tranquil seascapes, architectural wonders, and the enchanting diversity of Australian native birds.
Beyond her own artistic pursuits, Maureen is dedicated to sharing her passion for art with others. She has taught students of all ages at the Diamond Valley Art Society and offers engaging classes from the comfort of her home. Moreover, she has conducted workshops at various esteemed art organisations, including Echuca, Plenty Valley Arts, Heathcote Art Society, Seymour Art Society, Diamond Valley Art Society, Yarrawonga Art Group, and Kilmore Art Society, inspiring budding artists to explore and develop their creative talents.
