my teacher Hemi Fox HONOURING THE LEGACY OF A TRULY AWESOME MAN 11.4.2026
I share Katja Fox post to you
Dear Students, Trainers, friends and family, please sit down and brace yourselves for THIS unexpected news. ... I'm still overwhelmed by it all, yet trying to take it all in, not only mentally and emotionally, but spiritually as well. So, please forgive me for providing you with only the naked facts and circumstances here - and then give also YOU time to take it all in and to process it fully. Here is what happened:
While in Whangarei on Wednesday last week, Hemi sat in our car while I did some quick shopping at the supermarket. When I returned back to the car, he was in a bad state, so I quickly took him to the Family Health Care Centre just 10 mins. away. When we arrived, his doctor/GP and nurses immediately took action and tried to resuscitate him! However, all their efforts were in vain! The cause of it, acccording to the GP, was he had suffered a massive stroke - the second after the milder stroke he had 2½ years ago.
UNBELIEVABLY SO: Hemi PASSED AWAY around 2pm - Surrounded by members of the Ambulance service, the Police, nurses and other officials. He was then taken to the nearby MAORI Funeral Home, where I could sit in silence, share my prayers with him and convey my Love and Blessing - and brace myself for the coming realities!
Oh, it all just felt SO UNREAL!! .... Even though there had been signs that he was longing for peace ... and EVEN though the dreams you shared, dear Grete (Melaa) and Justina M., as well as a vision hereof that came to me just a few days earlier, I did not anticipate it would happen so SOON!
With amazing care, loving support and instant action taken by the closest of Hemi's family, we managed to get everything prepared for the tangi (funeral) to take place at Karetu Marae where he would be laid to rest close to his mother and sister. The burial took place yesterday - April 11th - in an atmosphere of so much Love, such warm acknowledgement of Hemi's awesome contributions of heart and spirit. Endless stories were shared during the tangi about his unique personality, surprising initiatives, endless skills and crazy ideas that he had 'exposed' everyone to in the past.
It is with profound respect, acknowledgement and gratitude, that I send my Love to all family members and the community of te Karetu as well as my family in Phuket, Thailand and in Denmark.
With MA-URI connecting him with the destiny he had been prepared for in subtle as well as unavoidable ways, he became the wise and all-inspiring teacher and conveyor of Hawaiian-Maori-Polynesian healing arts! All of you who have been past and present students or trainers of MA-URI, you have recognised this and felt the profound impact and blessings hereof. May his memory and everything he represented and contributed with remain a source of continuous inspiration and blessings to you all. Amen to that!
I send ALL of you MUCH, much Love and acknowledgement as well as my ever-present Trust and Faith in the guidance provided by Spirit and by Ancestors - in humbleness I remain yours sincerely, Katja
Deep gratitude from Mette Sorensen Dennark - Australia
