Dear teen girls, stand strong... 💜
1. Remember, It's NOT About You
Most mean-girl behavior comes from insecurity, jealousy, or their own hurt. That doesn’t excuse it, but let it remind you: you’re not the problem.
2. Mean Girl Situations Spike in Middle School
In elementary school, life is just simpler. By the time middle school rolls around, it’s all about vying for position in the hierarchy of popularity. No one wants to be at the bottom of the hierarchy; everyone “wishes” they could be at the top, and most kids end up somewhere in the middle. And, everyone, no matter where they fall in the hierarchy, has a burning desire to fit in -- ESPECIALLY mean girls. And... they'll stop at nothing.
3. Don’t Let Her Words Define You
You might hear things that sting, she might try to make you feel left out or "less than," but that's not your truth. Stay true to yourself. Don't let her words shake your confidence. Don't relinquish control!
4. Cast a WIDE Social Net
The wider your social circle, the less chance one mean girl will shake your confidence. Focus on surrounding yourself with friends who care about you and love you just the way you are. The ones who make you feel better, not worse.
5. Find Ways to Boost Your Confidence
Get involved in hobbies, sports, or activities you enjoy that build your confidence. The more confidence you have, the less anyone will be able to pull you down.
6. Protect Your Softness
Being kind in a cruel situation isn't a sign of weakness... It's a sign of strength. Walk away with your head high. You don’t need to fight to prove your worth. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is not play the game. She's looking for a reaction... don't give it to her.
Parents, I've written a whole post about mean girls. If you want me to send it to you, direct message me and I'll shoot it over to you! 💜
