Let’s take about the Osteoporosis in Women🫣. Why you should care?

⏳ 🦴 Bone mineral density naturally decreases with age and Osteoporosis is the number one cause for fractures in women over the age of 50!

The causes are multivariable but are often linked to hormonal changes, lifestyle factors, genetics, certain medications such as corticosteroids, nutrition etc. Bones are living tissue and are constantly being broken down and rebuilt, they need adequate nutrition and the correct stimuli to be able to be built back strong!

So, how do you combat Osteoporosis and maintain healthy bones?

✔️ Healthy bone mineral density prevents fractures and the only proven way to do this is through loading the bones with mechanical tension with resistance training and weight training.
✔️ Medications are also available to help maintain bone mineral density and also prevent further damage.

The 🔑 key here is recognising the importance of loading the bones through weight training and resistance training. This is best done supervised if you are new to exercise.

A quick guide to discerning between calluses, corns and warts! All of which require proper diagnosis and treatment. 👣

Calluses and corns are a direct reflection of pressure, with corns occurring when the pressure exceeds the skin’s threshold and capacity to withstand this pressure- often occurring in an inward growth of a circular growth of hardened skin.

Important to keep in mind that there are a few types of corns, in this video we are highlighting Heloma Durums, but there are also neurovascular corns, intractable plantar keratodermas (smokers corns) and heloma miliare (seed corns). Each with different causes attributed to them.

Similar to the types of corns- there are different types of warts as well! In this video we highlight the main type of mosaic warts caused by HPV-2 (most of the time) which have a cauliflower looking appearance with a strong blood supply. Warts may appear different depending on the type and location of the wart.

If you’re concerned about your feet- it’s crucial to get assessed and diagnosed so that your particular issue can be treated appropriately.

The glutes are comprised of the largest and deepest muscles in the body attaching at the hip. The 3 main muscles are the gluteus maximus, medius and minimus. Each muscle serves a function, together they align to help the hip with movements of flexion, extension, abduction and adduction.

We dissected a systematic review to find out the top 4 exercises that best activate the glute. In this specific review- they were assessing the gluteus maximus but also made consideration to the smaller accessory muscles of the gluteus medius and minimus. The results were not surprising but are beneficial as they provide a guide for those looking to strengthen their glutes or hypertrophy train.

Why are the glutes important?

✔️ Provide a strong fulcrum to stabilise the lower back & pelvis, allowing propulsion during walking and running.
✔️Injury prevention at the lower back, knees and legs
✔️Provide Fundamental movement and mobility

The top 4 movements:
1. Step ups and their variations (including side step ups!)
2. Iterations of a deadlift (hex bar being the best!)
3. Barbell Hip thrust
4 Split squat
