Mother, Maiden, Wombyn - I see your light, your darkness, the ache behind your eyes and the love in your smile.
For centuries, we birthed a baby, then we were looked after by a community, a village. In today’s modern society a wombyn is expected to love and care for a new born, care for her family, keep a clean house, work, bounce back to her ‘pre-baby body’, rest so her body heals, be run off her feet all day and then wake to do it all again. She is expected to sit up at night alone, while the house sleeps to care for her baby, wake early to feed the family and have things organised. How dare she break down, how dare she ask for help, how dare she even say she isn’t coping.. how dare she not smile because she has just brought life into this world.
I say let’s bring a shift in society for 2021. 2020 was our year of growth but 2021 is a year of POWER. Let’s change the expectations, let’s come together, let’s be a sisterhood and raise our children together. Let’s be the change the next generation needs to be raised by. ✨
