The ‘wait and see’ argument prevents early identification and intervention for struggling readers.
The myth that you have to wait until a child is 8-years old before dyslexia can be diagnosed, is wrong!
Don’t delay!

Dyslexia is a thief!
This is even more true if we’re not taught how to read in the early years of school along with our peers.
Our reading challenges begin to slowly rob us of time.
The time spent in class trying to get our work completed.
Hours spent on homework just trying to keep up.
Time away from friends finishing work.
Time trying to remember all the things we’ve forgotten to do.
Time management issues.
Telling time.
Never...Enough....Time.

It steals our time, our self-esteem and our self worth.
Not only do we lose precious years of cumulative learning but when our day is filled with speech therapy, tutoring, extra time spent on homework and many other interventions, it leaves little time for the things we enjoy, like being with our friends, playing, sports, listening to music and just hanging out at home doing nothing.
And I know how incredibly lucky and privileged I am that my family could afford outside intervention, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that learning to read should not become the trade-off for being with our family and friends, doing the things we love or simply having fun.
We need to close the gap!
