Calling out to all cereal lovers. πŸ“’

RDA South needs your empty cereal boxes (A4 size or bigger) for an up-and-coming project and contest. All will be revealed soon. πŸ˜‰

If you have any spare wool, colouring in pens, glitter, glue or child safe paint lying around we’d appreciate that donation too!

Please squirrel them away for now. We’ll let you know the best date & time to drop them off to RDA South. 🐿

Also, can you tell us, what’s the best time to eat cereal?
a) Breakfast
b) Dinner
c) A late-night snack
d) All of the above
Let us know your thoughts in the comments. 😊

The RDA South team thought they were seeing double when Alfie, our new recruit came to RDA as he looks just like our long timer, Dylan.

Alfie joined us in May. He is a sweet natured pony, just like Dylan. Currently he has his training wheels on while we work out if he is a good fit for our RDA riders. But he really is a gorgeous boy who we think will do great! πŸ’œπŸ΄β€οΈ

If we didn’t know better, we’d think Alfie was Dylan’s long-lost twin! Or brother from another mother. πŸ˜‰

Whatcha doing? πŸ‘€

Dylan always seems so curious when our weekend feeders come to give him his breakfast. He wants to know who you are and what you’re doing. Maybe he should have been named curious George instead. πŸ˜„

If we could read his mind, we’re sure it would say, whatcha doing?

We couldn’t finish celebrating National Volunteer Week without mentioning Cindy & Trish.

Cindy started with RDA St Helens in 2004. When the centre closed in 2023 that didn’t end her coaching days. Cindy travels down to RDA South several times a year to coach. That’s a 6 hour round trip! 😳 She’s pictured here on the left with her Volunteer Service Excellence Award in 2021. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Trish has been volunteering with RDA for 7 years. Retired from working as a school teacher she carries on her love of teaching in the riding arena. When she’s not in the arena, you’ll find her busily tidying up the grounds. She’s pictured here on the right with her Volunteer Encouragement Award in 2021. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Volunteers are the lifeblood of RDA and it's difficult to not form connections within an organisation that is people orientated. We'd like to take a moment to remember a valued volunteer who passed on 7th March 2025 ...

❀️ Celebrating the life of Jan King πŸ’œ

Jan was a truly valued member of the RDA South 'family'. Jan joined us as a volunteer in mid-2023, her involvement sparked through a generous donation from her golfing connection with the Llanherne Golf Club, of which she was a member.

From the moment she arrived, Jan's vibrant energy was undeniable. She was a whirlwind of activity, never idle, always seeking out jobs to do. Often the first to arrive and among the last to leave, Jan's dedication was truly remarkable. Even when unwell, her commitment shone through.

But Jan was so much more than her tireless work ethic. Her wonderful sense of humour brightened the Thursday team, and her mere presence was a joy. Both our participants and her fellow volunteers were drawn to her warmth and kindness. Her enthusiasm was evident when she attended the volunteer training day in February, eager to continue contributing for as long as she could.

Jan held a special affection for our horse Clyde, who was undoubtedly her favourite. Her gentle spirit and caring nature made her a wonderful presence in the stables and around the grounds.

Jan will be deeply missed. Her dedication, her humour, and her kind heart have left an indelible mark on our community. We are so grateful for the time she shared with us and will cherish the memories of her unwavering support.

Sometimes, we have to call upon volunteers outside of RDA to teamup with our volunteers to get a job done. With the theme , we'd like to take the opportunity to highlight some great teamwork earlier in the year, that went into widening a bridge on our site that is used by both people and horses.

Thank you ...
πŸ‘‰ John Button for coordinating the project.
πŸ‘‰ Tas Pipe Weld for, yes you guessed it, doing the welding.
πŸ‘‰ TasSteel for donating the materials.
πŸ‘‰ Uptons who provided the timber at a discounted rate.
πŸ‘‰ Our neighbours, the Lenah Valley Fire Brigade, for volunteering their time to wet the area down to prevent a bush fire. πŸ”₯πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’
πŸ‘‰ RDA South volunteer Phil for repainting the non-slip surface.
πŸ‘‰ And finally, Dylan (RDA South horse) and Lilian (RDA South Centre Manager), for conducting the quality control testing.

It's now much easier and safer to walk over the bridge with horses and riders who require one or two side-walkers.

Great work team. πŸ‘

Say hi to Laura. πŸ‘‹ She started volunteering at the young age of 12. While many children her age were busy playing video games and building Lego, she was donating some of her play time to volunteer with RDA. πŸ˜€

Laura started her volunteering career with RDA Viewbank Victoria. Then she moved to Tasmania for study and recently passed her Level 0 Coach accreditation. Well done, Laura and lucky Tasmania! πŸ‘

If you ask around, you’ll be told Laura is reliable and passionate about volunteering with RDA. We can count on her to help with riding sessions (pictured here) and horse feeding.

Thank you, Laura, for all you do for RDA. β€οΈπŸ’œπŸ΄

Meet Adrian, pictured here with Claudia (left) EO, Coaching Coordinator and Riding Coach and Lisa (right) Riding Coach.

Adrian has been volunteering with RDA for over 30 years! What an amazing example of loyalty and dedication. πŸ‘

He's had so many roles with RDA. From volunteering in the carriage driving program, helping in the arena as a session volunteer, his tireless and endless work maintaining the RDA South grounds and so many sausages turned on the BBQ for fund-raising days. We could go on and on...

Adrian has given over 50,000 hours of his time to RDA (which includes a lot of hours picking up horse poo! πŸ΄πŸ’©).

What a legend! 🌟

For all that you do for RDA, Adrian, we thank you! πŸ’œπŸ‘β€οΈ
