We’re so grateful to Rufus’ family for taking the time to share this beautiful feedback 🤍

Rufus required complex open fracture surgery, and we’re so pleased we could be there for him every step of the way. A special thank you for acknowledging Dr Kristin, whose dedication, clear communication and compassion helped keep Rufus’ owners feeling supported and reassured — even from overseas.

Seeing patients like Rufus on the road to recovery, and knowing their families feel informed and cared for, is exactly why our team does what we do 🐾

⭐ Nurse-led excellence in action ⭐

Here is Emily! One of our amazing veterinary nurses, performing a nerve block before a TPLO surgery.

This technique is a key part of our multimodal pain management approach, helping to keep our patients comfortable before, during and after surgery. Regional anaesthesia plays a crucial role in pain management, helping to reduce intra-operative anaesthetic requirements.

Our nursing team is highly trained and works closely with our surgeons and anaesthetists to ensure the best possible outcomes for every patient.

We’re incredibly proud of the advanced skills and knowledge our nursing team brings to every case. Go Em!!

🏥 Southpaws Malvern Emergency – How Triage Works

When pets arrive at Malvern Emergency, they are assessed using a triage system, similar to human emergency hospitals. This ensures that the most critically unwell patients are treated first, regardless of arrival time.

🩺 What is triage?
Triage is a rapid clinical assessment performed by a trained veterinary nurse or veterinarian to determine how urgently a patient needs care.

Pets are prioritised based on:
- Breathing and airway
- Heart rate and circulation
- Level of pain or distress
- Neurological status
- Severity of injury or illness

🚨 Why you may have to wait
We understand waiting can be stressful. If another patient arrives who is more critical, they may be seen first — even if you arrived earlier. This allows us to provide immediate, life-saving care to pets who need it most.

💙 Our priority
Every patient matters. The triage system helps us ensure that all pets receive the right level of care at the right time, while keeping everyone as safe and comfortable as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while our emergency team cares for pets in their most critical moments 🐾

A massive congratulations on completing your residency, Shaun — we’re very much looking forward to continuing to work with you as you tackle this next chapter.

🐾 Patient Spotlight - COCO! 🐾

This 5-year-old ball of fluff (Japanese Spitz) recently underwent a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) on her right hind leg to treat a cranial cruciate ligament injury.

A TPLO is a specialised orthopaedic procedure that stabilises the knee by changing the biomechanics of the joint, allowing dogs to regain comfort and function without relying on the damaged ligament. It’s one of the most effective surgical options for active dogs with cruciate disease.

She is now starting her recovery journey, with a structured rehabilitation plan in place to support safe healing and a return to normal activity over the coming weeks. 💪

Well done to this brave girl — we look forward to watching her progress 🐾
