Here are some great tips for settling your child into a new school. FamilyLinQ will be hosting a welcome for new children and their families in the week before school starts which will be a great opportunity for your child to have some fun and get used to the school environment. Details to come!!

📚✏️Starting school is a big step—for children and parents 💛🧳

Here are some simple ways to help your child feel confident and ready, thanks to our friends at Skills to Grow

Starting early helps make the unknown feel familiar.

If possible, spend some time walking around your school during the holidays. Check out where the main admin building is, where parents can park their car and where the playgrounds are.

Practice practical skills too:
🍱opening lunchboxes and wrappers
🥤 using drink bottles
👔 wearing their uniform
📚getting school supplies ready together
🧳practice opening the zips on your school bag

Having confidence with these practical skills will make them feel more independent on the day. Short visits, familiar visuals, and gentle practice all help ease nerves and build confidence. A calm, prepared start can make a big difference 🌱

🌿Expression of Interest, 1x Casual Playworker Position & Casual Relief Playworker Positions🌿

Starting: Jan 5th onwards

Neighbourhood Backyard – Loose Parts Play Space, Yarrabilba
We are seeking expressions of interest from community members who would love to support children’s play in our loose parts play space at Neighbourhood Backyard.

This is for both a regular Playworker as well as casual relief work.

Mondays & Tuesdays, 3:30pm–5:30pm, with further opportunities available at both of our sites in future.

Why Child-Led Play Matters:
Child-led play empowers children to explore, create, take healthy risks and learn through real experiences. It builds confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills and social connection in a way structured learning cannot replace.

Duties include:
Supporting safe, self-directed, child-led play
Setting up and packing away loose parts and play environments
Engaging positively with children and families
Observing play without directing or controlling it
Maintaining a safe and inclusive atmosphere for all participants

Requirements:
Current Working With Children Check (Blue Card) – essential
Passion for play, community and children’s wellbeing
Reliability and positive communication
First-aid certificate or willingness to obtain
