The lovely weather calls for some fun in the sun and water play. What a better way to enjoy the last day of care for the year than with some water play.

Cooling off at the water play park at Logan gardens

The children always have a ball with water play and with hotter weather we headed to the local park with water for a play. We also got some time to interact with some people from a disability organisation and was lovely to see the children interact with respect and not show any fear of people who are slightly or even a lot different.

Getting out and about in the community is fun for all!!

Our Christmas art table is ready to go with Christmas paper, words to use for Christmas and an art activity. The fire place is up and occupied by a blow up Santa and reindeer. And the room is looking neat and tidy.

Our elf on the shelf “mr wiggles” has decided to start off the month reading stories to his friends. The children of coarse had to copy and have spent the morning looking after their friends from Santa’s village. They made sure they were fed, had a good sleep and were entertained with the toys.

So today we had a bit of an upset day. We started out with no one being able to park in the driveway as council had blocked it to fix a burst pipe.
We went outside for a while but the truck out the front was much more interesting so we ended by going to watch it for a bit before doing some work on learning about fruit and vegetables and their names while colouring them in.
At rest time the children only got a short sleep as we had the house down the road catch fire and 2 fire trucks, an ambulance and a police car turned up to make noise as well as the digger out the front.
So funny that because last week we practiced our fire drill the children heard the fire alarm going off and immediately started their fire drill. Dropping what they were doing, getting my mobile and the emergency bag and waiting at the door to move out the front. Even though the noise happened while they were asleep they immediately knew what to do.
Super proud educator moment!!

Learning about fire evacuation and what to do in case of fire in our daycare setting.

This is something I am passionate about and I believe children and families of all ages should know what to do in the situation of a house fire.
The children practice fire evacuation every month here and I know they know what to do here. At home is a different story but it would be great if everyone had a plan and a practice once a month randomly to make sure children and family members know what to do in a fire emergency.

Mm mud pies!

Who doesn’t love a mud pie? There is soo much children have to teach us as adults including how to enjoy our environment. The simple mediums of dirt and water can transform into soo many different things. The humble mud pie. A volcano. A castle with a moat. The possibilities are endless!!

Be a kid and enjoy the simple things.

The favourite part of the weather getting warmer is a return to water play.

Water play is soo awesome. It gives children freedom to make scientific discoveries all on their own. Things like pouring from one container to another uses maths and science. How many scoops fill the container? Is this container bigger or smaller than that one? What floats and what sinks? Not to mention the awesome feeling of getting cooled down.

Today we had room change.
I have been reflecting on my family daycare and how I can better stimulate the children through play and independence.
I have observed the children over the past week to determine their preferences and choices and then today I decided to create some interest areas to help the children engage.
It has worked wonderfully with all the children positively interacting within the indoor environment in a much better and open way. Less toys and clutter in the room and more open spaces has made the children very happy and they have really engaged in their play and with each other.
Interestingly enough the children have tended to play as a group in each space and take turns without argument. This has led to a
Much better learning environment. We have also moved back to more structured learning with the children having time and space to be but also having some structured learning and the opportunity to burn off energy before learning begins.

Science week is all about getting the children hands on with science. Our activity on Monday was bicarb and coloured vinegar. This is surprisingly simple and very consuming activity for the children. They loved the bubbles and mixing and storing watching the reaction happen before their eyes and also mixing the colours to find out what colour we could end up with.

Getting a bit more of the yard done. Soft fall has gone down around the swings and we are extending around the pirate ship.
Once this is finished we will have the cubby sorted and a great play space for the kids.
