It’s school holidays again, which means the house is a mix of google meets, phone calls, snack requests, ball-games and Lego explosions all at once.

Running a recruitment company means the pace never really stops. But these weeks are a great reminder that balance isn’t about perfect separation, it’s about presence.

When we're at work, we give it everything. When we're with the kids, we do the same.

The truth is, it’s not easy. Like many parents in business, Glen is constantly shifting between deadlines and dad duties; sourcing candidates one minute, building cubby houses the next.

But that’s life. And honestly, that’s what makes it awesome.

We recently heard that the Australian Defence Force has had its best recruitment season in 15 years.

More than 7,000 full-time personnel joined in 2024–25, with fresh strategies driving record interest.

But here’s the catch... Out of 75,000+ applications, fewer than 10% made it through.

The lesson for us in healthcare recruitment?

It’s not just about attracting candidates, it’s about guiding them through the process, keeping them engaged, and helping them land the right role.

Our Director, Pam, was recently invited to speak about Employee Turnover, and why it hurts. Here are a few key take-aways.

It’s expensive (up to 2x an employee’s salary to replace).
It damages morale (70% say having a friend at work is key to happiness).

So, why do people leave? Usually due to lack of purpose, conflict, misaligned expectations and feeling undervalued.

The good news is that retention is possible. Invest in the employee experience, offer career growth, foster belonging and recognise and reward.

Turnover is inevitable. But losing your best people doesn’t have to be.
