Nexus Hospitals recently completed a national preferred distribution tender for medical consumables and pharmaceuticals - a significant step forward in procurement for our organisation.

Following a highly competitive process EBOS Healthcare, Symbion and HPS were selected and collaborated to deliver a bespoke solution tailored to Nexus’ national network of day and short-stay hospitals.

To celebrate the milestone, we hosted a two-day national procurement conference in Melbourne, bringing together purchasing and procurement representatives from our 22 hospitals, alongside August Consulting, who supported the tender process. We were also delighted to welcome CEO Greg Hall and CFO Cameron Fuller, who connected with teams and toured EBOS Healthcare’s state-of-the-art distribution centres.

As Andrew Woods, Business Manager EBOS Healthcare highlighted “EBOS Healthcare, Symbion and HPS worked together to deliver an outcome for the hospital group.” Our CEO Greg Hall stated that this is "the most significant breakthrough in Nexus' procurement journey to date."

We’re excited to welcome Dr Kang, Vitreoretinal Surgeon and Ophthalmologist, to Bunbury Day Hospital in Western Australia!

Originally from South Korea, Dr Kang completed his medical degree at Yonsei University, one of Korea’s top institutions, before training at Severance Hospital, ranked among the world’s top 40 hospitals by Newsweek in 2024.

He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications and received international awards for his presentations at major conferences, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

2025 Employee of the Year – Congratulations, Mirela! 🌟

We are incredibly proud to recognise Mirela as our 2025 Nexus Hospitals Employee of the Year - an honour that truly reflects her growth, dedication and impact.

Mirela joined Corymbia Day Hospital in June 2022, bringing experience from a radiology centre. She began her journey with us as an Enrolled Nurse, working across pre-admission, admission and Stage 2 recovery.

In 2024, Mirela took a courageous step forward by challenging herself through the Nexus Anaesthetic Program. Thanks to perseverance, resilience and a strong growth mindset, she turned feedback into opportunity and exceeded expectations. She became the first Enrolled Nurse at Corymbia to successfully complete the anaesthetic program, and now supports anaesthetic roles in theatre. She also holds an Intermediate Life Support certificate.

Mirela’s journey has inspired her peers and shown what’s possible at Nexus. Known as a hardworking, reliable and trusted team player, she is often the go-to anaesthetic nurse in challenging situations and is respected for her professionalism and work ethic.

Mirela is a true success story and a wonderful example of how Nexus supports people to grow with confidence.

We’re delighted to welcome Dr Harry Constantin to our Nexus community at Kogarah Private Hospital. 👋

Dr Constantin is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with specialist expertise in shoulder, elbow and hand surgery. He completed advanced international training in Nice, France, undertaking the prestigious Shoulder Fellowship at the Institut de Chirurgie Réparatrice Locomoteur et Sports (ICR) under world-renowned shoulder surgeon Professor Pascal Boileau.

Through this training, Dr Constantin developed advanced skills in complex shoulder reconstruction, joint replacement, and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, caring for both adults and children, including elite and professional athletes.

He also brings extensive experience in orthopaedic trauma surgery, having completed an AO Trauma Fellowship in the UK and trained across Level 1 Trauma Centres in Sydney and regional NSW, as well as advanced elbow surgery training across Europe.

Recognised for academic excellence, Dr Constantin was awarded the Gordon-Gordon Taylor Medal by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and has published in international journals.

Whether helping athletes return to peak performance or supporting patients to regain movement and quality of life, Dr Constantin is committed to delivering personalised, high-quality care.

Dr Chiou is a highly respected specialist with extensive experience across both public and private healthcare settings. She is currently a Staff Specialist Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Gosford Public Hospital, and also consults privately across Norwest, Rouse Hill, and Smithfield.

Her training spans major tertiary and quaternary centres, including Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Westmead Hospital, and St George Hospital, with fellowship training completed at Gosford Hospital. Dr Chiou holds a Bachelor of Medicine from UNSW, a Master of Medicine (Clinical Epidemiology) from the University of Sydney, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Welcome to Pacific Private Hospital, Dr Michael Phegan! 🎉

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr Michael Phegan, a highly experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery, to our specialist team at Pacific Private Hospital on the Gold Coast.

Dr Phegan completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland and undertook extensive orthopaedic training across Queensland, including a dedicated foot and ankle fellowship. We are delighted to introduce Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist, Dr Madhavi Kasi, who is consulting and operating at Westside Private Hospital & North Lakes Day Hospital.

Dr Kasi has cared for patients in India and the UK, including completing a Hepatology and Liver Transplant Fellowship at the University of Cambridge. She holds Fellowships with both the Royal College of Physicians, UK and the Royal Australian College of Physicians.

She treats all liver conditions, including complex liver diseases, and has presented her expertise at national and international meetings.

Her gastroenterology special interests include:
• Surveillance endoscopy for Barrett’s
• Functional GI disorders
• Coeliac disease
• Complex reflux disease
• General gastroenterology

Dr Kasi was the proud recipient of the Excellence in Patient Care award during her Cambridge Fellowship, and continues to provide patient-centred, high-quality care to this day.

We were excited to recently welcome 24 aspiring medical students to Westside Private Hospital as part of the Future Doctors Australia program 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

The students were given a special behind-the-scenes look inside an operating theatre, where they learned what really happens before, during and after surgery and just how important teamwork is in delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

Led by Dr Blake Fidock, Orthopaedic Surgeon, the group gained insight into surgical procedures, the sterile theatre environment, and the careful preparation required before any operation begins.

With the support of Bev Owen, Director of Nursing, students also enjoyed a hands-on experience learning how to properly “scrub in”, highlighting the importance of infection control and attention to detail in keeping patients safe.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experience, and the enthusiasm from the students was wonderful to see.

This October, we pause to honour the strength, courage, and resilience of everyone impacted by breast cancer.

We’re delighted to welcome Penelope Marshall to the Nexus Hospitals Executive Team as our new Chief Nurse Officer and Director of Clinical Governance.

Penelope brings more than 22 years of experience in nursing and midwifery leadership, including over eight years in senior executive roles at Ramsay Health Care and across three private hospitals. She most recently held the position of National Director, Nursing Governance at Healthscope Operations.

Her career spans both acute and aged care sectors, with a proven track record in clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement, and operational leadership. Penelope also served as Executive General Manager, Clinical Governance, Risk and Innovation for Victoria’s largest aged care provider.

She holds two master’s degrees in Health Care Leadership and Management and Health and Medical Law and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In addition to her executive experience, Penelope is the Victorian Practitioner Member on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA), playing a vital role in shaping the future of nursing nationally.

Penelope is passionate about leading high-performing teams, mentoring future clinical leaders, and ensuring safe, person-centred care across the healthcare system.
