🕯️Pregnancy & Infant Loss Remembrance Day🕯️

Today, we pause to honour and remember the little lives that were deeply loved but gone too soon.

At Kogarah Women's Imaging we are privileged to share in some of the most joyful moments of our patients’ journeys, but we also know that not every story has the ending that was hoped for. Our hearts go out to the families who have experienced the unimaginable loss of a baby during pregnancy, birth or infancy.

Kogarah Women's Imaging pride ourselves on providing a respectful and caring environment during these times.

🌟 SERVICES SPOTLIGHT - DATING ULTRASOUND 🌟

A dating ultrasound is done during early pregnancy, ideally at around 7-9 weeks gestation.

Purposes of a Dating Scan:
• Confirm the pregnancy is viable (check for a heartbeat).
• Determine the gestational age of the baby.
• Estimate the due date more accurately than the date of your last period.
• Determine if it’s a single or multiple pregnancy (eg. twins).
• Look at the baby’s development.
• Scanning at this early stage of pregnancy also enables timely diagnosis of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy.

Preparation for your scan:
• Bring your referral with you to your appointment.
• You will need a full bladder for this ultrasound.

It's important to ask the ones you love if they are OK. Not just today, but ANY day. Keep on asking too. You never know when someone who is struggling in silence might just decide to open up.

The conversations can feel difficult, but they can make such a difference.

🌸 Women’s Health Week 🌸

At the Women's Imaging Group we’re proud to support Women’s Health Week and remind women of the importance of prioritising their own health.

As women, we often put others first, but making time for your own health checks is vital. Specialised gynaecological ultrasounds, like those offered at our practices, play a vital role in supporting women’s health through early detection, prevention and reassurance.

Whether it’s monitoring reproductive health, investigating symptoms, or keeping up with routine scans, we’re here to provide compassionate, specialised care.

🧬 WHAT IS NIPT?
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is a simple blood test that screens for common chromosomal conditions like Down syndrome (Trisomy 21), Trisomy 18, and Trisomy 13, as well as s*x chromosome disorders.

đź’‰ HOW DOES IT WORK?
It uses a blood sample from the mother (which contains cell free DNA from the placenta) to determine the chance of a chromosomal condition developing in the baby. It can be done as early as 10 weeks into pregnancy. The result usually takes 5-10 working days.

👶 OTHER INFO
There is no risk to the baby.
NIPT can reveal the baby’s gender if you choose to find out.
It's safe, accurate, and gives many parents peace of mind early on in their pregnancy journey.
