Calvary Health Care Kogarah

Calvary Health Care Kogarah is a Public Hospital located in Sydney specialising in palliative care and rehabilitation.

We are one of the largest sub-acute hospitals in NSW serving approximately 12,500 patients per year and is considered a leader in Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care within NSW. Founded in 1885 by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, Calvary is a charitable, not-for-profit, Catholic health care organisation. Our mission is to provide quality, compassionate health care to the most vulnerable, including those reaching the end of their life. With over 18,000 staff and volunteers, we have a national network of 14 Public and Private Hospitals, 72 Residential Care and Retirement Communities and 19 Community Care service centres. Calvary Health Care Kogarah provides public hospital services under a Service Level Agreement with the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and is an Australian Council of Healthcare Standards accredited hospital.

Earlier this week, our Volunteer Manager attended the 2025 Palliative Care NSW Volunteer Conference, themed "Being Human."

It was a moving reminder of the compassion and quiet strength our volunteers bring every day. Special recognition to our own Sharyn, who shared her story on the panel—hearing her was truly inspiring.

Last month, ABC Newcastle shared a beautiful story about our incredible volunteer, Maureen Barclay, who gives her time so generously through the Fig Tree Program, a supportive, group-based program within our palliative care service at Mercy Hospice, offering creative activities, social connection, and access to specialist care. It's a heartwarming reminder of the remarkable people who make our community so special.

Today being 🐱International Cat Day🐱, we are celebrating our purr-fect furry friends, who bring warmth, smiles, and calm to our lives.
A BIG thank you to team members who shared stories and photos of their loved felines, your stories and photos have brightened our day. Here are a few.....

“This is Jäger, our sassy little-big boy. A rescue we adopted at 3 months old — now 9 in October! He loves to cuddle and greets us with happy chirps after long workdays.”
