Calvary Health Care Kogarah is a Public Hospital located in Sydney specialising in palliative care and rehabilitation.

We are one of the largest sub-acute hospitals in NSW serving approximately 12,500 patients per year and is considered a leader in Palliative Care and End-of-Life Care within NSW. Founded in 1885 by the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, Calvary is a charitable, not-for-profit, Catholic health care organisation. Our mission is to provide quality, compassionate health care to the most vulnerable, including those reaching the end of their life. With over 18,000 staff and volunteers, we have a national network of 14 Public and Private Hospitals, 72 Residential Care and Retirement Communities and 19 Community Care service centres. Calvary Health Care Kogarah provides public hospital services under a Service Level Agreement with the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and is an Australian Council of Healthcare Standards accredited hospital.

This week at Calvary, we celebrated Harmony Week, recognising the rich diversity that makes our community stronger. Our teams came together to share stories, celebrate cultures, and reflect on the importance of inclusion and belonging.

A special thank you to Sharryn Fitzgerald, Diversity Health Coordinator, whose leadership and passion made these activities possible. Seeing our teams support each other, learn from one another, and grow together is a wonderful reminder of why fostering belonging matters.

💙 Celebrating Recreational & Diversional Therapy Month 💙

February was all about connecting, wellbeing, and meaningful activity as we celebrated Recreational & Diversional Therapy Month

Patients enjoyed a variety of activities including mindful colouring 🎨, garden visits 🌿, Movers & Shakers exercise, and The Great Outdoors mobility group.

Staff joined in too, testing some of the activities themselves, from sensory “What’s in the Box?” challenges to collaborative fingerprint artwork, mindfulness tasks, and more. It was a fun way to experience firsthand the joy, movement, and connection these activities bring to our patients.

We loved seeing so many moments of laughter, creativity, and wellbeing throughout the month, thanks to our DT Suzy and her helpers. 🌟

Dressed proudly in their Dragons jerseys, Spike regularly visits alongside Chris to share hugs, comfort, love, and plenty of tail wags with our team and patients — spreading joy wherever they go.
