The Kids Helpline is a 24-hour telephone service that is available for young people (aged between five and 25) who need advice, counselling or just someone to talk to – no problem is too big or too small. You can talk to the counsellors about anything and they will not criticise or judge you. You can also contact the Kids Helpline by email or online.

Do you use a wheelchair or another mobility aide and need help getting to and from your medical appointments? Help is at hand!

As we wrap up volunteer week - we'd like to introduce you to one of our most recent recruits, Jack O'Connor.

Jack was a carer for his late wife Fiona who had motor neuron disease. During her battle with MND they purchased this fabulous Toyota Noah, to help give Fiona the freedom of coming and going from appointments when it suited her.

Jack is now looking to help others in the same boat and is volunteering to transport patients to and from their appointments, free of charge.

His van can carry one wheelchair and one carer at a time, with a ramp that can lower to any curb side height. The vehicle doesn't need a disabled park, with rear access.

"I understand what it's like to have to wait for taxi's with limited services available - and they do the best they can - but before we had this van Fiona would have to wait up to four hours to come home from hospital - I just want to help get patients home and to be comfortable, for them and their carers sake," says Jack.

You can request a lift with Jack by speaking to your medical team at SWH, who will organise bookings through our volunteer office.

We are currently on the search for casual Disability Support Workers.

Position requirements...

- A Certificate III in Individual Support or Certificate IV in Disability (or currently undertaking)
- First Aid & CPR Certificate
- Working with Childrens Check (employee)
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Proof of working rights in Australia
- A willingness and availability to work varying hours including sleepovers
- The ability to work with and support participants with varying needs, particulary in-home personal support and challenging behaviours.
- The availability to work every second weekend.
- Drivers license & reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance.
