This one is a big one! Stress increases cortisol. Progesterone our calming hormone taht balances out oestrogen. Cortisol and progesterone share a starting substance. But when we are stressed the body views cortisol as the hormone that will keep us alive so it prioritises it which depletes our declining progesterone even quicker.
Cortisol becomes dysregulated in stress making it more difficult for us to get to sleep and the less progesterone we have the less of a calming effect it excerpts.
It's so unfair but it's also a massive wake up call to do something about the stress.

It's both! And the reason is that stress increases cortisol that creates insulin resistance which encourages fat to be deposited around the middle- yay😭
And then oestrogen that supports insulin sensitivity starts to decline....so you lose that lovely helpful hand of oestrogen. Kinda a double whammy.

Yes! It totally is making peri menopause worse! And here's why!
💥It disrupts the oestrogen/progesterone balance which is already out of whack so symptoms like moodiness, weight gain, painful or heavy periods (when you do get them) are all WORSE for stress.
💥Stress creates cortisol dysregulation making it harder to get to sleep. And because progesterone, our calming partner to oestrogen, is slowly declining it doubles the problem.
💥Your liver is working double time to metabolise your hormones in peri but along comes stress adding extra pressure to the liver AND we tend to compound the issue with alcohol...it's a nightmare in action!

There are some very clear issues we are dealing with right now and they include stress we can't escape from, money concerns, sleep issues and sheer overwhelm. And if you are in peri menopause then these types of stress definitely impact our hormones making symptoms worse.
