March is Lymphoedema Awareness Month.

This year’s theme, “United in care. Diverse in practice.”, highlights the importance of collaborative care and personalised approaches in supporting people living with lymphoedema. Every person’s experience is different, and effective treatment requires care that is tailored to the individual.

At Lift, lymphoedema screening, diagnosis and treatment form part of a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. Screening plays an important role in identifying early changes and supporting prevention, while ongoing treatment focuses on managing symptoms, maintaining function and reducing progression.

Through specialised Physiotherapy, Prescribed Exercise Medicine and medical oversight, treatment is designed around the individual, recognising that effective lymphoedema management extends beyond symptom control to supporting strength, function and confidence.

By working together across disciplines, we support people living with lymphoedema to move safely, maintain independence, and continue engaging in the activities that matter most to them.

During Lymphoedema Awareness Month, we acknowledge the clinicians, researchers and patients whose ongoing commitment continues to improve outcomes for those living with lymphoedema.

For International Women’s Day, we asked some of the women at Lift what empowerment means to them in their work treating people living with cancer.

Lauren founded Lift with a determination to develop a world-leading method for the way prescribed Exercise Medicine is delivered.

She has fought tirelessly to raise awareness of what the evidence clearly shows: that prescribed Exercise Medicine should be recognised as a frontline treatment for cancer alongside chemotherapy, radiation and surgery (and she’s not done yet!).

In her pursuit, Lauren has been surrounded by fearless and compassionate women who continue to play a central role across our medical, physiotherapy, exercise physiology and administrative teams.

Empowerment is one of our guiding values. In cancer care, that means supporting patients to feel informed, capable and confident throughout treatment and recovery.

This year’s theme, “Balance the Scales,” reminds us of the importance of continuing to advocate for equity in healthcare, leadership and research.

Today, we also celebrate all the women in the Lift community, our patients, referrers, advocates and supporters, whose strength, trust and advocacy continue to shape the future of cancer care.

Exercise during cancer treatment isn’t just about fitness; it’s a medical treatment.

Evidence shows that prescribed Exercise Medicine can help manage side effects like cancer-related fatigue by reducing inflammation and helping the body rebalance.
It can improve energy, lift mood, and make everyday life feel more manageable.

When dosed and monitored, exercise is safe, evidence-based, and can make a real difference to how cancer patients tolerate treatment and feel day to day.

Recently, , CEO and Founder of Lift Cancer Care Services, took part in the SA Discovery Tour, an inspiring initiative dedicated to raising vital funds and awareness to reduce the impact of cancer in our communities.

As a first-time participant, Lauren stepped well outside her comfort zone in the role of Peloton Car Navigator. While supporting people through cancer comes naturally to her, navigating the open road proved to be a very different challenge!

Tour de Cure represents the very spirit of community, resilience and collective impact, values that sit at the heart of Lift Cancer Care Services. We are incredibly grateful to stand alongside such an extraordinary network of people, all united in their commitment to changing the cancer experience for individuals and families across Australia.

Sometimes healing starts with a pair of crazy socks.

Every Thursday at Lift is Crazy Sock Day and it’s become one of our favourite traditions.

Loud, bright, mismatched… the socks are fun, but it’s the connection they spark that really matters.

What began over 3 years ago as a simple idea has turned into something special. Patients, staff and carers share a laugh, swap sock stories, and build community, one colourful step at a time.

Because at Lift, we know that healing isn’t just physical. It’s social, emotional, and sometimes… a little bit silly too.

“It’s not like a personal training session. I didn’t want to be pushed. I needed to be supported.”

For Wayne, one of the biggest surprises at Lift was starting every Exercise Medicine session with a Doctor consultation.

The thorough check-in, the detailed questions and the clinical handover gave him confidence that his treatment was tailored to how he was feeling that day, physically and mentally.

Nothing generic. Nothing forced. Just medically prescribed, responsive care designed around his symptoms, side effects and capacity.

This is Part 3 of four short videos sharing Wayne’s journey with Lift Cancer Care Services.

The Lift Cancer Choir is about so much more than singing together. Our members regularly enjoy social activities, including relaxed get-togethers where we share a meal, have a few laughs, and spend time getting to know one another better. It’s a wonderful way to unwind, connect, and build supportive friendships.

Partners are always welcome to come along and join in too. The more the merrier.

If this sounds like something you’d love to be part of, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Get in touch at liftcancerchoir@gmail.com.

Come for the singing, stay for the community.

What does it really mean to step into the role of a patient?

In this video, Lift Clinical Psychologist, Nicole, explores how embracing this role can create structure, clarity and a greater sense of control during cancer treatment.

While it can feel overwhelming at first, learning to focus on what matters, set boundaries and approach treatment with intention can make the experience more manageable and help you feel more confident as you undergo all parts of cancer care.

Have you ever noticed that we only ever refer to it as the Exercise Medicine room?

This is intentional.

When you undergo Prescribed Exercise Medicine at Lift, your treatment is medically prescribed, dosed and supervised. It is  carefully aligned to your individual needs and overall care plan.

Because this is not a gym session. It is a medical treatment.

Exercise was my lifeline.

For Wayne, staying active during treatment wasn’t just about fitness, it was about maintaining normalcy, supporting his mental health and feeling capable even on the toughest days.

“Exercise medicine was vital. It’s the number one thing I recommend to anyone starting treatment,” Wayne says. Even when fatigued or feeling foggy, getting moving at Lift helped him leave sessions feeling stronger and clearer.

This is the second of four short videos sharing Wayne’s journey with Lift Cancer Care Services.
