Hi again,
I wanted to let you know a bit more about Bowen Therapy for your consideration.
Bowen Therapy initially appealed to me as a therapy to 'give a go' because every traditional option I tried didn't succeed to 'fix' or at least bring to a manageable level, my stuck jaw.
In desperation I tried this therapy and it wasn't what I expected it to be but it worked in that I've never had that problem again. That was over 20 years ago and Bowen Therapy has helped me ever since. Hence why I chose to study it.
Bowen Therapy, somehow through the action of the unique Bowen Move and the positions on the body these moves are made 'talks' to the Body's Inner Doctor' , that magnificent wisdom that we cannot possibly come close to fathoming. How it does that for me is science and magic together which suits me just fine. Theories are that it reboots or offers energy input to this wondrous system which I tend to think is true, that the release of muscles, ligaments and tendons over the body assists the body to reset to a former blueprint of balance, also true to my mind; that the gentle moves impact the fascia, which is the connective tissue which covers our entire body just below the surface of the skin and which can detect areas of constriction and stiffness, and get them fluid again, also true I think. Other ideas are that certain moves are connected to important points on meridians in the body which are energy pathways connected to specific organs and my observations of the way moves in one spot can elicit sensations at very different geographical sites on the body support this theory. And for some the idea that Bowen Therapy reconnects the electrical circuits in the body makes sense ;this too is a very reasonable theory, as is that mechanically the moves loosen tight muscles, tendons ligaments and in turn assist compromised nerves to be restored to balance.
Whatever this remarkable therapy is doing it has helped tens of thousands of people all over the world, from babies who have been impacted by birth trauma to our oldest citizens who seek help from a lifetime of experience as it can impact the body. Feeling more balanced, in less pain or no pain, feeling a sense of well-being which is harder in these challenging times, feeling like you've done something nice for your body, and having your sciatica go or your carpel tunnel syndrome resolve, or having more controlled asthma or other respiratory difficulties, having less knee ,back, hip, shoulder pain, sport injury rehabilitation, or feeling more alive and in some cases less PTSD or anxiety symptoms ---- all is possible within the resources of your body's capacity to heal.
Yes, it is a different approach to the more traditional ones which is treating specific physical parts of the body, but these often don't work. To my mind we are far more interconnected, complex and interesting than that: we are an incredible spark of creation filled with colour, light, energy and huge potential.
As a side note I've just watched a series of webinars put out by the Bowen Association on the impact of concussion on some people long term and the research being done in sports clinics and schools in Canada and it seems that the Bowen Concussion Protocol skillfully applied post incident, has safely initiated the swift remedial rebalancing of sports-induced post concussion syndrome in a high percentage of cases. Having listened to the research findings and understanding the benefit of Bowen Therapy I would advise anyone who has experienced a concussion and perhaps isn't feeling 100% to come and have a couple of Bowen treatments.
This is Tom Bowen who created this technique who is working on a young girl with cerebral palsy. A humanitarian, Tom provided free clinics to people with disabilities all his working life. He lived and worked in Geelong Victoria.
