The biggest asset in development sport isn’t to be the player or athlete doing the most - it’s to be the athlete that is available.

Available to physically adapt and progress; available to be mentally focused, learning and making strong decisions; available emotionally to be in the sport long-term and with resilience.

If your young athlete is consistently showing up but something feels off - sluggish, stuck, flat - the answer more than likely isn’t to simply train more.

Before you put their change in mood, increased irritability, low energy and fatigue down to just ‘being a teenager’, swipe through these 7 questions to see if something else may be at play - because it’s possible that what you have been noticing has a name (and something that is more common in young athletes than most realise!).

Our team has worked within Elite and National Pathways for over a decade, and ensuring active teens feel empowered to eat enough to grow, thrive and perform has been a core component of not just what we do, but who we are.

I’ve had to sit on this post for a few days, unable to find the words to do justice to what the month away for the Asian Cup have been, and what they’ve meant.

Firstly, I am so grateful that I get to throw my whole heart and head into this work because of my imcredibly empowering and supportive husband - it is something I am in awe of and do not take for granted as a female working in sport.

The team making the Final, and being so close to - and so deserving of - a win, was tough. Particularly knowing how much this means to the players, and witnessing their devastation first-hand.

When you put everything into something, and sacrifice for a result you know you can never fully control, the purpose has to be so much bigger than one outcome. And when tournament football takes you so far from normal life, everything around it needs to be exceptional.

That’s where I think the true success of this tournament lives, not just in what this team achieved, but in who they are. In their professionalism, kindness, generosity, intelligence, curiosity, humour, and creativity. In their ability to be exactly who we all need to see.

When I asked the Junior Matildas in a session last night how they were feeling after the Final, not a single word of ‘disappointment’ or ‘sad’ appeared. Two words filled the screen: Inspired and Proud.

Gosh, I feel that.

We can miss out on a trophy and still achieve so much. Amongst 75,000 screaming fans in the stadium, and millions watching from home, children with their parents and countless adults all coming together to believe in something bigger, united by this team when everything else in the world feels overwhelming.

Across 15 training sessions, 6 games, and 5 location moves through just as many timezone changes, I am so proud of this team, and the team behind the team. And let’s not forget: being the first country to qualify for the 2026 World Cup in Brazil!

Incredible photos of me with eskies and slushies captured by the one and only Rach 🙌

It’s a question I get often - especially those wanting to work in professional sport, but also one I find so hard to answer!

Every day is a little different between logistics, planning, delivery and player chats, but I thought I would share what 24hrs on a match day in tournament mode can look like in the match day environment! This one was extra chaotic as depending on the match result we were either staying in Sydney and able to go straight to bed for a rest day; or packing everything up and moving across the country first thing!

I am so aware there is nothing ‘normal’ about this role, and it is one not for the faint hearted, but I am one that thrives working with an aligned purpose - and for that I am so grateful to be living this reality!

Tournament football is all about fuelling to perform, then recover, then repeat. With the currently competing at the , we thought we would share a little sneak peek into the prep - the work before the tournament even starts.

One of these was travel packs. With some big travel days between games, it is all about setting players up for success both physically and mentally - my small part in this is with delicious food (made possible by our incredible chef team!) and these travel packs.

Designed for both travel comfort, and options that reduce the risk of illness.

The kids were so incredible in helping with these, and it’s nice for them to be involved with something that steals their mum from them for weeks on end.

Sometimes the jobs are in the quiet and nothing to do with what my nutrition knowledge is 😅

Time to dust off the callipers - the most daylight they have seen for the last 5+ years 😅

Routine skinfolds for nothing more than a stick to ‘keep them accountable’, and then taking a punitive approach via ‘Fat Clubs’ is something that absolutely still exists - and we are here on repeat advocating that it is both not evidence-based practice nor performance outcome led.

We actually have very little causative evidence - particularly in team based sports - to suggest that there are targets to skinfolds or body fat that are equal a performance outcome.

If there is no purpose to a measure, and there is potential for harm, it is time to stop doing the measure!

Needing other ways to measure nutrition behaviour and performance risk factors? We’ve spent years innovating and rolling out this very thing to many squads and individuals so that body composition targets become obsolete - and it’s been the absolute pride of our career and company so far ❤️

They ride or walk to school most days now. Not because they’re more motivated than last year, but because the environment around them changed with a recent change in schools - making this not only doable but enjoyable.

And with that small, unintentional habits changed with it - more movement, more steps, a natural decompression between the school day and home.

It’s a small reminder of something much bigger that we work with our clients on daily.

So much of what we do (or don’t do) isn’t really about motivation, willpower or discipline or wanting it badly enough. It’s about what the environment around us allows. What it makes easy. What it makes visible. What it makes feel normal.

And environment isn’t just physical.

It’s the safety of the home and neighbourhood we are in, our income that does or doesn’t allow for fresh food, the culture at work or in club that celebrates skipping lunch or staying late. The coach or parent whose words quietly shape what we believe our body decides about our worth or potential.

We don’t rise to the level of our motivation. We rise to the level of the environment around us.

So instead of hearing your inner critic tell you that you have ‘failed again’ or that you ‘just need to be more disciplined’, look for the friction first.

Shift the question from “why can’t I just be more consistent?” to “what does my environment currently make easy, and what does it make hard?”

Instead of ‘I just need to eat more veggies’, check in with why you aren’t doing that already - time poor? Too expensive? Don’t know how to cook them? Not sure how to make them taste enjoyable? Focus on these blockers rather than pushing on in spite of them.

Sometimes the answer points to something you can change. Sometimes it points to something structural, something bigger than what is in one person’s controllables. Both are worth naming.

You were never the problem. The conditions just needed some work first to either scale it back to what’s in your capacity, or find what enjoyable looks (and feels) like ❤️

It’s pretty rare in the sports nutrition world for contracts to come to you, so for Compeat to be sought out globally by a team in the UK was pretty mind blowing.

As were promoted into the premier league, we were invited to be a part of setting the standards - in values and approach - for nutrition in their team. A privilege we did not take lightly and easily one of the hardest and most daunting projects to launch in to!

We are soon to finish up with the squad, hopefully leaving them with higher awareness, strong systems and player advocacy. The players have been an absolute pleasure to work alongside and we are so grateful for their trust in us to do things differently.

So proud of our team (special mention to the amazing who we got to welcome back to Compeat to launch the program from Europe!) in the delivery we were able to achieve, and the player facing progress reports (no weight or body comp metrics in sight!) that were one of our most loved innovations of 2025 ❤️

A huge shoutout to Viv and all the medical and performance team for trusting us, advocating for nutrition and collaborating with curiosity. With a Nutritionist role now integrated in to the club, it’s our time to step back and cheer from the sideline.

Big learnings come from big discomfort, and this project is one I will look back on so proudly and also as one where we have discovered so much.

I started my studies and career scared of reflection and any chance of negative feedback. Terrified of mistakes.

It wasn’t until I landed the fellowship role at the AIS that I truly let myself get fully vulnerable and terrifyingly open to learning - errors, f-ups and never being the smartest person in a room. But it was also the safety in that setting with the most incredible team that allowed it all to happen - the open doors of colleagues for constant questions and supervision; their generosity in mentoring, the daily team lunches, and our senior staff that never gave the answer even when they knew what it was.

When I left that all to start a family in a small country town - wow, was that like whiplash. I lacked professional identity, I lost confidence, and I could see a path in my career in sport at all.

It was in this chapter that I realised I wasn’t the only one feeling this, and I needed to give back to help others find their purpose, passion and worth - and in doing so, I accidentally found part of mine.

Being nominated for this award is wild and so humbling. I still have so far to go (and grow) as a mentor and supervisor, but that new mum 10 years ago wouldn’t believe that we now have a Dietitian community of over 100 professionals in that we mentor and support; or that weekly individual and group supervision sessions are our norm.

This award from may have my name on it, but it isn’t mine to own. This award is to all those that have helped me stand taller, reach higher and who I have had the honour to work alongside - no one gets here on their own and how lucky I am to be a part of a profession that truly wants to raise each other up ❤️

I wish I could have it all, all at once.

I wish I could hold every ball - both the glass ones (my non-negotiable priorities) and the plastic ones (the priorities that can be paused and picked up later) - in the air at all times.

But over time I’ve come to realise that to even try to excel at both means submitting to the imperfect mess. That there is no clear line between who I am as a mother and who I am in my career.

I feel like it is so important to make sure this doesn’t look too shiny or perfect.

To go abroad for work for three weeks with three young kids is not easy - unnatural even. The goodbyes sting, the logistics stretch us, and moments of guilt sit heavy. But it also means that I savour the experience and make sure that every opportunity and moment is worth it - there’s also a deep sense of purpose that comes from helping to build something bigger than yourself with incredible colleagues alongside.

This would all be an impossibility without the “kick me out the door, go do big things” support of my superstar husband & co-CEO , somehow holding the home & business fort (alongside the chaos) while our three littlies build resilience beyond their years.

Wales & England, you were a camp that had the most temperamental of weather, ridiculously elite welsh cake schnacks, and the most incredible support team and players to work alongside.

The pro level snaps within here from the always brilliant Rach
