A sunburn happens when your skin gets too much UV radiation. It causes redness, warmth, pain, and sometimes blisters. As the skin heals, it may peel because some skin cells die off. You can treat a sunburn by cooling the skin, moisturizing with aloe vera, drinking fluids, and taking pain relievers. Severe cases may need a doctor’s care. Getting sunburned often can lead to premature aging and skin cancer.

# # # Stages & Symptoms

1. **Initial Stage**: You will notice redness within hours. This redness peaks in 12-24 hours and may feel tender and warm.

2. **Severe Stage**: If sunburn is severe, you may get blisters, deep redness, shiny skin, and intense pain, indicating a second-degree burn.

3. **Systemic Symptoms**: When sunburn covers a large area, you might have headaches, fever, nausea, chills, fatigue, or dizziness.

4. **Healing Stage**: Your skin will peel as it heals, which is a normal process.

# # # Treatment & Relief

- **Cool Down**: Take cool baths or showers, or use cool compresses on burnt areas.

- **Moisturize**: Use aloe vera or a gentle moisturizer, and keep the moisturizer in the fridge for extra comfort.

- **Hydrate**: Drink plenty of water.

- **Pain Relief**: Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can help ease pain.

- **Avoid Complications**: Do not pop blisters; let them heal on their own.

# # # Long-Term Effects & Risks

- **Premature Aging**: Sunburn can cause wrinkles, freckles, and rough skin.

- **Skin Cancer**: Each sunburn increases the risk of melanoma and other skin cancers, especially in children.

# # # When to See a Doctor

See a doctor right away for severe blistering, signs of infection (like pus), a fever over 39°C, confusion, severe pain, dehydration (dizziness or less urination), or if an infant has sunburn.

16/01/2026

Hydration is the process of maintaining the right balance of water in your body, which is essential for all bodily functions. You can achieve proper hydration by drinking water and fluids, as well as consuming water-rich foods. Pale yellow urine typically indicates good hydration status. Dehydration occurs when fluid loss exceeds fluid intake, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, or dizziness. It is especially important for older adults, children, and those who are exercising or ill to increase their fluid intake.

# # # Why Hydration Matters

1. **Body Composition:** Water constitutes 50-80% of your body and is vital for cellular functions.
2. **Bodily Functions:** Water lubricates joints, aids digestion, transports nutrients, regulates body temperature (through sweating), and helps eliminate waste.
3. **Performance:** Adequate hydration supports both physical and mental performance, helping to prevent headaches and constipation.

# # # Signs of Dehydration

- Thirst (feeling thirsty indicates that you are already slightly dehydrated).
- Dark yellow, strong-smelling urine.
- Dry mouth or lips, and feelings of fatigue.
- Dizziness, confusion, or a lack of sweat during physical activity.

# # # How to Stay Hydrated

- **Drink Water Regularly:** Sip water throughout the day; don't wait until you are very thirsty.
- **Monitor Urine Color:** Aim for pale yellow or straw-colored urine.
- **Eat Water-Rich Foods:** Incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet to help with fluid intake.
- **Increase Intake When Needed:** Drink more fluids during hot weather, while exercising, or when you are ill (e.g., with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea).
- **Be Mindful of At-Risk Groups:** Older adults and young children may need consistent fluid intake, as their thirst mechanisms can be less reliable.

# # # What to Drink (and What to Limit)

- **Best Choices:** Plain water, sparkling water, and herbal teas.
- **Other Contributors:** Diluted juice, milk, and some sodas (in moderation).
- **Limit:** Sugary drinks, as they add unnecessary calories.

How is your New Year's Resolutions Going ????

To ensure your 2026 resolutions endure beyond the first few months, it has been recommended that you use the following techniques:

1. **Be Specific**: Instead of setting vague goals like "eat healthy," opt for measurable ones such as "add one vegetable to every lunch."

2. **Habit Stacking**: Connect a new habit to an existing one. For example, do 10 push-ups immediately after brushing your teeth.

3. **Focus on ‘Approach’ over ‘Avoidance’**: You are more likely to succeed by incorporating a positive habit (e.g., "walk daily") rather than trying to eliminate a negative one (e.g., "stop being lazy").

4. **Expect Imperfection**: Missing a day is normal; concentrate on consistency instead of achieving a perfect streak.

5. **Track Progress Visually**: Utilize a habit tracker app or a simple journal to keep your motivation alive.
