Want to relax and sleep better...?
Legs up the wall, or viparita karani, is a great restorative yoga pose that doesn’t have to be done in a yoga sequence. You can do this before bed each night, when you are having trouble sleeping or any time you have a few moments to yourself.
Benefits of legs up the wall include:
- Alleviating headaches
- Relieving lower back pain
- Soothing menstrual cramps
- Calming which can assist in relieving stress and anxiety
- Boosting energy
Also, gravity can help the circulation of both blood and lymphatic fluids from the legs back into the lower abdomen, relieving swollen ankles, tired knees and congested pelvic organs.
All you need is a free wall and some floor space in front of it. Sit beside the wall and move your legs up the wall whilst moving your torso to lay flat on the ground. It may take some adjusting to see what works for your body and you may like to put a yoga mat, blanket or cushion down for your comfort.
