Are we really friends?

At Glenwood we have a group of pet animals who get along very well with each other, and can help our participants to understand their own behaviors and feelings.

Animals can help us to regulate, improve communication and relationships, build teamwork, create space, build confidence and encourage mindfulness.

Animals make it better! ❤️🐴🐕🐓🐶😍

Having a role in a group, family or the wider community can make us feel valued. This might include having a job or task that is yours and you are appreciated for it. Or it can be the role you have such a friend, brother, sister, worker, son, daughter, aunt, uncle or many other roles. It gives us a way to be identified and an opportunity to be appreciated. It’s important to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate and be valued.

Winter - frosty mornings followed by sunny 🌞 days make outdoor therapy and activities so fun. Gross motor activities provide ways to identify how our body is feeling, the muscles we are using and how we are self regulating.

Strategies and techniques to learn to identify and to respond to less optimal situations are enhanced by being in nature and on the farm. 🐑🌳🐴🐓🥗🐕🌺

“Calm down” “Just count to ten”

How does that help if you’re feeling stressed or dysregulated?!!!

These comments won’t help someone to calm; using statements such as the others above can.

Creating a space for the individual to have their feelings validated and acknowledged supports them.

DE’s create this space and use statements like these to support individuals to regulate their emotions.

Easter days provided time to harvest and cook homegrown delights 🥗, and spend time in the golden Autumn light regulating and reviving.

Hoping your Easter break was a time for family, friends and relaxation.😍

It’s so important to spend time unwinding and restoring. 🌳🦅☀️🌸🐑

Social Skill Development sessions at Glenwood assist with improving relationships and social participation. From play sessions, turn taking, role modelling and group activities our DE (Developmental Educator) can focus on improving social skills in so many ways.
