Are you an obstetrician, midwife, doula, or other birth / body worker who supports women planning their next birth after caesarean? In this workshop we will look at the role of the midwife or birth worker in supporting women plan their birth after caesarean. We will explore the importance of trauma informed approaches to debriefing previous birth experiences and the evidence surrounding birth after cesarean options. The workshop then uses the four factors from Hazel’s PhD findings to see how to support women plan the best birth after caesarean for them.

Some recommend against an epidural during a VBAC because they are concerned it will mask the symptoms of uterine rupture. But what does the evidence show?

New article out by Evidence Based Birth - Physiological or Managed Third Stage (birthing the placenta) Using Synthetic Oxytocin

"A small qualitative study found that pregnant people are often given little or no information from their care providers about their options for birthing the placenta (Reed et al. 2019). When care providers did offer information, it tended to reflect their own preferences or usual practice style rather than a true discussion of options. This is concerning, because pregnant people express diverse preferences for the third stage—some consider expectant management a safer process and an essential element of natural (physiologic) birth, while others consider active management to be the safe route that prevents complications and helps you avoid further interventions."

Have you given any thought to birthing your placenta? Yes, that’s right, after your baby is born it doesn’t just stop there – the placenta needs to come out too. The placenta is an incredible organ and has been the lifeline of your baby for the duration of your pregnancy and it needs to be given a lot more acknowledgement and credit than just being discarded after birth. As you’ve probably guessed, I’m a big fan of the placenta and the umbilical cord.
