What an amazing show it was today on The Unexpected Journey at RPPFM - Your Peninsula Radio! 🎙️💙

Tina Naughton, Monique Cain and I absolutely loved every moment, and it was extra special having the wonderful Councillor Sue Baker join us in the studio today. 🌟

We kicked things off with Ben Maddox, who organises The Clown on the hill for Halloween which is an incredible display he’s been putting together for the past eight years! 🎃 You can follow them on Facebook at Clown on the Hill or on Instagram. Each year they raise funds for the Superheroes Foundation, supporting families affected by brain cancer which is so important and such a special cause. 💛

This Friday, festivities kick off at 4pm with a sausage sizzle, merchandise, and even Batman (and possibly the Batmobile!) 🚗🦇. As you enter the scare walk, get ready to be extra scared! For little ones, there’s a kid-friendly zone this year too which is perfect for those who prefer fewer ghouls and more giggles. 👻🎈

We also chatted with Tim Marchington, who shared all about Sailability — an amazing organisation helping people with disability experience the joy of sailing. ⛵ He also reminded everyone about fire safety, encouraging us to check out the helpful information on the CFA website, and shared that his organisation Purple Soup Team Building will be offering free sensory-friendly Santa photos for all families at their Somerville factory starting the second week of November. 🎅✨ Bookings can be made by calling 1300 488 474.

It was truly a jam-packed show filled with fun, community spirit, and inspiration. 💫 We’ll be taking a break next week for Melbourne Cup, but we’ll be back in the studio in two weeks and can’t wait to see you then!

Not all disabilities are visible 💚

This week is Hidden Disabilities Week, a time to raise awareness and understanding for the millions of people living with conditions that can’t always be seen.

These might include autism, chronic pain, mental health conditions, sensory processing differences, epilepsy, or fatigue-related illnesses — and so many more.

Just because someone 'looks fine' doesn’t mean they aren’t facing challenges. Compassion and patience go a long way. A simple smile, kind word, or willingness to listen can make a huge difference. 💫

Let’s continue to build a world where people feel safe to be themselves, where invisible doesn’t mean ignored, and where inclusion truly means everyone.

One week ago today, we held our fourth Local Disability Expo in Langwarrin – and what an amazing day it was! 💛 It was so heart-warming to see so many families come through the doors, connecting with the incredible providers who were there to share their services and support. The atmosphere was filled with energy, laughter, and community spirit.

The entertainment truly made the day special – with the talented BAM ARTS dancers, the fun and engaging The Mik Maks, the beautiful voice of Rosie Caulfield, and the ever-impressive Aaron Baines on piano. 🎶 What a line-up!

I’m already looking forward to what’s next! Over the coming months, I’ll be putting on more events for families and bringing some exciting new initiatives to our community.

Every week, I also host ‘The Unexpected Journey’ on RPPFM - Your Peninsula Radio, where we chat with service and support providers and hear inspiring stories from people living with disability. I’ll be sharing the link regularly so you can tune in each week. 🎙️
