❤️ Happy Mother’s Day ❤️

From my cold toast, handmade trinkets and cards to yours 🥰

One day I won’t get these excited little faces bursting into my room eagerly awaiting me to open my kinder gifts and eat my questionable breakfast that they proudly made themselves. So I’m soaking in every year as much as I can.

How can motherhood be so long and tedious, yet fleeting and euphoric all at once?
It’s an experience I’ll never have enough words for.

For the mums who are, who have been and who are still waiting to be - Happy Mother’s Day.

With love,

Happy International Day of the Midwife!

I have so much love and gratitude for the midwives in my life, both personally and professionally.

To the midwives that surround me, thank you for hyping me up, calming me down, talking reason with me, debriefing, laughing, understanding and sharing in the phenomenal experience that is midwifery.

✨Mel & Chris✨

This was an incredibly long journey for Mel and Chris, and I was so honoured when Mel asked me to walk with her on her journey to Zara.

After experiencing a caesarean section for her first birth, Mel felt drawn to the concept of private midwifery care and a home birth. However, Mel’s pregnancy had its fair share of twists and turns, which left Mel feeling that she needed to leave her place of birth open to both hospital and home. For her to feel safe, she needed to have all options on the table - so we had our local hospital team working alongside us.

As 42 weeks was approaching, Mel made a back up plan to have an induction of labour. On the same day she made that very plan, Mel’s body kicked into gear and her labour started naturally!

It was a quick and powerful labour, all occurring in the safety of her home, surrounded by her trusted midwives. As birth was rapidly approaching, it dawned on Mel that her dream of a home birth in water was now a reality. Mel and little Zara worked hard together and Mel birthed her baby powerfully and safely in the comfort of her living room, surrounded by family and her midwives.
It’s a home birth I will never forget and I am so incredibly proud and grateful to have been a part of Mel’s healing HBAC.

To Mel and Chris, a huge congratulations and well done on achieving your dream birth and healthy baby girl.

Thank you for letting me come along for the ride!

✨Tamika & Dean✨

A healthy baby and a healed mother can coexist at the same.

Tamika and Dean experienced a very traumatic caesarean birth with their first babe, in her words “I never got the gooey baby on my chest moment”.

This pregnancy, we planned to birth at home. Lots of discussions, planning and reflection occurred as the pregnancy progressed.

Spontaneous labour began with a cracking start! Tamika laboured quickly and quietly.
Tamika and Dean’s little babe showed me that she may need to come sooner than intended, so we acknowledged this message and calmly transferred into our local hospital.

Once we arrived, Tamika was met with a calm and understanding environment, all clinicians patiently waited for Tamika to birth her baby all fours, straight into her arms. No rushing, no panicking, just an unspoken sense that Tamika can still achieve this VBAC, and we have paediatric assistance present if needed.

Baby Kiara came into the world and let us all know she was quite fine with a big cry - what an emotional and empowering moment for Tamika and Dean!!

A huge congratulations to you both on the beautiful healing birth of baby Kiara. Tamika, your strength and resilience is unmatched, well done!

Thank you for choosing me to be your midwife, it’s been an absolute joy to care for you and your growing family.

✨ Romy & Mark ✨

This beautiful woman came into my life just over a year ago, we met over coffee and instantly knew that we were on the same wavelength.

With this birth, Romy planned to achieve a VBAC, so we worked alongside the amazing midwives at peninsula university hospital to achieve Romy’s goals.

Although Romy was facing other complexities in her pregnancy, we remained focused on nourishing the physiology and sure enough, spontaneous labour began!

With her team cheering her on, Romy powerfully birthed her baby into her arms.

It was so beautiful to see the self-belief and healing energy emitting from Romy as she fell in love with baby Saskia.

Well done Romy and Mark, it has been an honour and a pleasure being your midwife.

✨Jess & Tim✨

This beautiful couple welcomed their third bub, born super quick in the comfort of their own home.

The storm brewed all day and so did Jess’ labour. As the rain poured, her labour progressed gently, but quickly.

Right before baby arrived, siblings Flynn and Lyla jumped out of bed and quietly took a seat by the bath tub. Supported by their Dad and aunties, they got to witness their mum birth baby Maevie into the water with no fear - just pure joy.

It was absolute perfection.

Jess and Tim, thank you so very much for allowing me to guide you through your pregnancy, birth and postpartum. A massive congratulations to you both, Maevie is absolutely divine.

✨Brie & Kieran✨

Third babies. They play their own game!

Going overdue can really test your psychological endurance, and this gorgeous babe kept her mum guessing the whole way 🥰

Brie knew in her heart and mind that her baby was well. Sure enough, in the middle of the night, River decided to come when the world felt quiet enough for her to enter.

Big sis & bro, Evie and Oak waited excitedly and quietly, casually coming in and out of the lounge room, watching their mum with curiosity and fascination at what was unfolding.

As their newest little love was born into warm water and lifted into waiting hands, the room felt full of love and calmness. Brie and Kieran trusted the process, trusted each other, and trusted their baby.

Home. Water. Love.

What a way to arrive 🤍

✨Tess✨

A woman’s intuition speaks volumes.

Tess predicted that her labour and birth would happen at exactly 38+4 weeks, on a full moon. And sure enough it did!

During the light of day, Tess laboured away strongly, using the sling, different positions and the pool. It was an intense and powerful labour, calling on all the women in the room to help get her over the finish line.

Much to everyone’s surprise, Tess welcomed a beautiful baby boy, Atlas Ocean 🌊💙🩵

Tess, well done on achieving your beautiful home waterbirth!! Your little boy is so dreamy, and you are such an amazing mum to your two little babes.

Thank you for allowing me into your family and letting me be a part of your journey to baby Atlas 🥰

I am finishing up a touch early for 2025, so I thought it best to publish my Karley Finnigan Mums and Bubs Statistics, aka the KFMBS 😂

I am really proud of these statistics, although my numbers are very small, I like to think that I am making a difference to the families I work alongside. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to provide family-centred, safe care that is truly rewarding.

Thank you to all of the families who chose me to be their midwife, to the hospital staff that assisted my clients in achieving their birthing goals, and to my private midwife colleagues for supporting me every step of the way (you know who you are 😘).

Cannot wait to see what 2026 brings!

✨Sharnika & Jake✨

“When a woman is given the space to birth her way, she learns that she is strong and powerful.
She learns to trust herself, even in the face of powerful authority figures.
Once she realizes her own strength and power, she will have a different attitude for the rest of her life, about pain, illness, disease, fatigue, and difficult situations.”
–Polly Perez

Sharns knew from day dot what she needed and wanted for her second baby. This baby needed a lot more womb time than her first, however Sharns and Jake instinctively knew that everything was ok, and that she would come when she was ready.

Just shy of 42 weeks, baby Zoaa calmly entered the world at home in water surrounded by her loved ones and support team.
Sharns and Jake have taken to their second postpartum with ease, tuning into their baby instead of tracking the mls/time/numbers. It’s quite freeing when you can just “be with babe”.

Sharns and Jake, you have done it your way, and it was so beautiful to watch you achieve your goals. Zoaa is absolute perfection, well done!

Thank you so much for trusting in me and choosing me to be your midwife. It’s been so much fun 🥰
