Members of the community are invited to pay their respects and honour Keith as he makes his final journey. Your presence will be a valued tribute to Keith's life and service.

This Friday, Tasmania Police will farewell Constable Keith Smith with full ceremonial honours in recognition of his dedicated service and the lasting impact he made both on and off duty.

While the funeral service itself is not open to the public, community members are warmly invited to pay their respects afterwards.

---
Join us in lining the streets and paying tribute to Keith as he makes his final journey.

▶ Devonport (from 2.30 pm): Members of the public are encouraged to line Victoria Parade (from Nicholls Street) as the procession travels along Bluff Road, up to William Street.

▶ Ulverstone (from 3.30pm): The procession will travel past Ulverstone Police Station along Victoria Street, turn into Reibey Street, and continue to Kings Parade.
---

The outpouring of kindness and support from across Tasmania and beyond over recent days has been deeply moving.

Keith was a proud member of Tasmania Police who was deeply respected by his colleagues and his community. His service and spirit will not be forgotten.

🕊️ The funeral service will be live-streamed at https://www.youtube.com/live/Tk-wVmCZYek

This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, is a reminder that recognising and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples—whose cultures are the oldest continuing in the world—is not just symbolic. It’s necessary for healing, for understanding the past and present, and for shaping the future.

Here in lutruwita/Tasmania, we walk on the lands of the palawa people, who have lived here for over 40,000 years. One fascinating piece of local history: long before European contact, Tasmanian Aboriginal people constructed complex shell middens and practiced sustainable land management that shaped the environment in ways we still see today. Their deep connection to land, sea, and sky continues to offer invaluable insight into wellbeing, kinship, and community care.
Aboriginal culture has had a profound influence on Australian society—from language and art to bush medicine, environmental knowledge, and community values centred on collective care. These contributions are not just part of history; they are part of our shared present.

Reconciliation is more than a week—it’s a commitment. One we carry with us in our work, our relationships, and the way we show up in community.
