I love this time of year, when the light changes and the temperature starts to drop.

This slowing down in nature is a nice time for us to also reflect on the pace of our own lives.

Are there areas we can slow down, do less, say no.
Are we doing the things that bring us joy and light us up.

I understand that many of us are hardwired to hustle and bustle and it can be hard to slow down.
So start slowly 😆
Book in a small window of time to be outdoors this week in the changing light and cooler air.
Find some time to sit with a cuppa and read a book or do some craft.
Cook a pot of stew or soup.
Prioritise sleep
Say no to something you don’t want to do 👌

Not going to lie and say as a Naturopath I don’t eat chocolate at Easter.. phfff what a joke.

But I do eat chocolate and hot cross buns without the guilt that many seem to struggle with.

Including these foods in my diet does not make me unhealthy, because I know that the rest of my diet includes fruits and vegetables, good protein, healthy fats, lots of fibre and variety.

Food doesn’t have to be “perfect” and it’s allowed to bring you joy 😊

A lot of people expect a naturopath to be all “Green juice and super foods” but not me, all food has a time and a place and today this sauso roll saved me!!
Try not to demonise the foods you eat into good or bad.
All good would be bad for you if it was all you ate 😘👌

Left over slow cooked lamb stew for lunch today.

My patients know that I talk about slow cooked meat stews a lot.
The reasons include:
1. The proteins is the meat are already partially broken down and are easier for our digestion to continue to breakdown and absorb and actually use.
2. This also means less likelihood of bloating and pain after the meal.
3. The veggies are also softer and are a great source of fibre for our good bacteria.
4. Stews often contain some sort of liquid so support daily hydration.
5. Anti inflammatory spices - stews and curries often call for flavour in the form of warming anti inflammatory herbs and spices - this one contains cumin, coriander, turmeric, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, garlic and ginger.
6. There is also the added benefit of time saving - being able to throw it all in a slow cooker in the morning and come back to a delicious pot of goodness at the end of the day 👌
