September 16 – International Day for Interventional Cardiology
What exactly is Interventional Cardiology? What does it involve, and who performs it?
Interventional Cardiology is a specialised field of cardiology dedicated to diagnosing and treating heart and blood-vessel conditions using minimally invasive procedures—most commonly through the use of catheters.
Calvary Hospital Launceston is proud to have an outstanding team of Interventional Cardiologists, including Dr Zaky (pictured far right with the Calvary CathLab staff), Dr Barthwal, Dr Hayat, Dr Thomas and Dr Nicolae. Working alongside them are our Cardiologists Dr Evans, Dr Mau and Dr Koshy, supported by Anaesthetists Dr Rogers and Dr Gadd—all committed to delivering the highest standards of patient safety and care.
This expert group collaborates with our exceptional Calvary team of 21 dedicated nurses and our CathLab ward administrator/coordinator, who ensure seamless, world-class cardiology services for the Launceston community. The CathLab also provides additional procedures such as pacemaker insertions, transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE) and direct current cardioversion (DCR).
On this International Day for Interventional Cardiology, Calvary Launceston proudly recognises the skills and dedication of these professionals and reaffirms our commitment to delivering safe, comprehensive and innovative cardiac care close to home.
