What age should I start having babies?

The short answer: there’s no perfect age!
And honestly, maybe having a baby isn’t what you want – and that’s totally cool too.

✨ Biology fact: Fertility is highest in your 20s, and gradually declines after 30–35.

✨ Health factor: Younger parents generally have fewer pregnancy complications, but modern medicine helps people have healthy pregnancies later too.

✨ Life stuff: Finances, career, relationships, and mental readiness all matter. A “perfect age” is different for everyone!

Fun way to think about it:
20s = your body is like a brand-new car 🚗 – smooth and reliable
30s = your car has some mileage, but with good maintenance it’s still a joyride!
40s = your car might need a few check-ups, but you’re an expert driver now!

Remember: whether you start in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or not at all, what matters most is your health, support, and personal choice.

Haemorrhoids in Pregnancy!

Haemorrhoids (piles) are super common in pregnancy — thanks to a mix of extra pressure in your pelvis, constipation, and hormonal changes that relax veins. They can be itchy, sore, or even bleed a little.

Here’s how to reduce your risk:

Stay regular: Eat plenty of fibre (fruits, veggies, whole grains) and drink lots of water.

Move your body: Gentle exercise improves circulation and keeps bowels moving.

Avoid straining: Don’t push too hard on the toilet — take your time.

Switch positions: Squatting or using a small footstool can help make pooping easier.

Take breaks from sitting: Long periods on your bum increase pressure.

If they appear, don’t suffer in silence - this is the weird stuff your GP loves to see and they can recommend safe creams, suppositories, or other strategies.

Pregnancy comes with enough surprises — haemorrhoids don’t have to be one of them!

Planning a baby?
Check your chickenpox immunity first!

Did you know catching chickenpox (varicella) during pregnancy can be serious for both you and your baby?

If you’re not immune, chickenpox in early pregnancy can increase the risk of congenital complications, and getting it later in pregnancy can cause serious illness for you and your newborn.

The good news: it’s easy to check!
A simple blood test can tell if you’re immune.

If you’re not, you can get vaccinated before trying to conceive – giving your future baby the best protection.

If you’re unsure, talk to a GP – it’s a small step that makes a big difference. There are also other tests that are recommended and offered when planning a pregnancy. Might be worth coming in for a chat!

Let’s talk about desire!

Ever wondered why sometimes you’re instantly “in the mood” and other times it takes a little warming up? Both are totally normal – they’re just different styles of s€xual desire.

✨ Spontaneous desire
Think of it like a light switch – it just flicks on out of nowhere. You might see your partner walk past, or your brain just goes, “yep, let’s do this!”

✨ Responsive desire
This one’s more like a campfire 🔥 – it needs a little spark and fuel. It often shows up after things get started – cuddling, kissing, touch, or even just emotional closeness.

👉 Neither is “better.” Neither is “broken.”

They’re just different ways our bodies work. Many people (especially in long-term relationships) find they experience responsive desire more often than spontaneous desire. And that’s perfectly healthy!

So if your desire doesn’t show up instantly, you’re not alone – you might just need the right spark to get the fire going.

💬 Which one feels more like you – the light switch or the campfire?

PS. The Bubble docs love chatting all things s€x so let’s talk!

✈️ Pregnancy Travel Myths Busted!

❌ Myth: “You can’t travel at all while pregnant.”
✅ Truth: You can — especially in the 2nd trimester, when nausea is lower and energy is higher.

❌ Myth: “Flying is always unsafe.”
✅ Truth: Most airlines are fine with travel up to 36 weeks, but you’ll need a doctor’s letter after a certain stage.

❌ Myth: “All international travel is fine anytime.”
✅ Truth: Ideally, avoid going overseas after 28 weeks — access to emergency maternity care isn’t always guaranteed.

Other tips: check vaccinations, stay hydrated, move often, and for some long flights, anticoagulant injections may be prescribed.

Pregnancy shouldn’t ground you — just plan smart! Speak to your GP, midwife or obstetrician before booking those flights ✈️

We have had the absolute pleasure to have another incredible women’s health GP join our ranks at our Hobart clinic. This relationship was a matchmaker situation. Someone told Sara she should work with us. They told us we must have her join the team. We contacted her. She said yes. We said YAY!

Meet Dr Sara McKenzie
FRACGP, MBBS, BScN, DCH, RANZCOG

Originally from Canada, Dr. Sara made her way to Australia on a working holiday and soon found herself captivated by Tasmania — and by the man who would become her husband. She went on to study medicine at the University of Tasmania, graduating in 2018.

Before becoming a doctor, Dr. Sara spent over a decade working as a registered nurse in intensive care, emergency, and rural/remote settings across both Australia and Canada. Her diverse clinical background brings a wealth of experience to her medical practice.

Dr. Sara has completed postgraduate training in paediatrics as well as obstetrics and gynaecology. She has a special interest in women’s health and is passionate about providing supportive, inclusive care.

She is available to assist with contraceptive advice, period management, six-week postnatal checks, breast health, unplanned pregnancy support, and a wide range of women’s health concerns.

Welcome Dr Sara!!

Why do I smell like a teenage boy during menopause?

Here’s the not-so-glam truth:
🔥 Hot flushes = instant sweat bath
🦠 Sweat + skin bacteria = surprise aromas
⚡ Hormones flip-flopping mess with your body chemistry
🥦 Even your diet can tweak your natural smell

So if you’ve been side-eyeing your own armpits lately… you’re not alone.

What helps?
👉 Breathable fabrics
👉 A good deodorant/antiperspirant
👉 Hydration & balanced food
👉 A sense of humour (seriously, it helps!)

Menopause: the gift that keeps on giving. At least this one you can wash off!

Trying for a baby?
Smoking is basically fertility’s worst enemy — for both men and women.

Ladies: it can mess with your eggs, hormones, and even increase miscarriage risk.
Gents: it lowers sperm count, slows them down, and damages DNA.

Quit smoking — and save your fertility and your dollars (because prams are expensive!).

Same goes for vapes btw ❌
